Date: May 14, 2025 Reception: 6 pm Talk: 7 pm Location: Dignam Gallery, Women's Art Association of Canada Stephen Bulger is a key player in the photography world in Canada and internationally, as a gallery owner, curator, publisher and representative of numerous Canadian and international photographers. He serves as a board member of the Art Dealers Association of Canada and co-chairs the Canadian Art Foundation. Stephen is a former President of the Board for the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD), Washington, D.C, and a co-founder of CONTACT, Toronto’s annual photography festival. Each of these photographers embeds themselves amongst their subjects, and lives with them 24/7 as they work on their projects for either weeks, or months, or years. Producing work since the late 1960s, these four women are internationally recognized for their contributions to documentary practice. Jill Freedman was active in the 1960s through the mid-80s; Ewald and Meiselas have been active since the early 1970s and continue to work to this day. Leistner’s practice began in the mid-1990s and is internationally recognized for carrying on this tradition of immersion with her subjects. 2 Day Collagraph Workshop with Loree OvensCome join us for a 2-day Collagraph Workshop led by Loree Ovens! Get hands-on experience creating unique prints using this fascinating technique. A collagraph is essentially a collage that is used as a matrix or a plate to create a print. Collagraphs are best printed using an etching press and they often show some embossment. It is a wonderful way to create prints without needing to use acid or solvents. We will be using oil-based water-wash-up inks. Day 1 - The technique will be introduced through example prints, plates and a demo. Then the class will create several small collages that will become printing plates. Day 2 - There will be another print demo and the class will begin to ink their plates and print using the etching press. Inks will be provided as well as printing rag paper, plates, some collage materials and gel mediums. Participants please bring: thin nitrile gloves or plastic gloves, a full pad of newsprint 18” × 24” old clothes or an apron, something to write notes on, interesting thin textures such as lace (optional.) April 24 and May 1, 1 - 4 pm In-person Non-refundable fee: $115 (WAAC members $105) Maximum 6 participants Women’s Art Association of Canada 23 Prince Arthur Avenue, Toronto, ON, M5R 1B2 416-922-2060 waac@womensartofcanada.ca www.womensartofcanada.ca Information Source: Women's Art Association of Canada | eventbrite

Gelli printing is a colourful experimental way to create monoprints. In this introduction to the technique we will use ready made and make our own stencils to create images and designs that might be suitable for making into picutres or to create papers that are brilliant for collaging. We use acrylic paints which can stain clothes so don't wear smart ones, bring an apron and we need lots of wipes to keep ourselves and our equipment and work area clean. so I ask everyone to bring a pack Young people age 12 and above are welcome but parent or carer needs to attend as well. I can't wait to see what you create! Every piece will be completely unique! Information Source: Catherine Jones | eventbrite

this workshop is for beginners and improvers. If you've already done some tetrapak printing then come along and learn about adding ink and chine colle colour. If you're a beginner let me show you through the whole concept! Its fun, easy and doesn't have the danger of metal plates! We print small on a 3D printed microprinter so you can make images for gift tags, card and cards or mount the images as they are! It's quite messy so wear old clothes and bring a pack of wet wipes and an apron! Information Source: Catherine Jones | eventbrite

This session is to help those of you who haven't used watercolours before or don't feel confident, to practise laying down washes, experience wet in wet and wet on dry and so on, to work out how to keep colours clean, how to create rich shades and how to layer colours. We'll use some images for you to use as inspiration for a simple landscape, after we've practised the basics and you feel more confident. If you have your own watercolours and watercolour brushes do bring them along so you can learn to use them. The same goes for watercolour paper- if you have some you want to use, please bring it. Please let me know if you are planning on bringing your own materials so I know how much to provide! I will provide boards and tape for everyone whether or not you want to use your own materials. This is a relaxing and fun workshop and all about havinig a go and experimenting and not worrying too much about the final piece: you've got the rest of your life to play with watercolours. We think of them as starter paints but in reality they can be very challenging and very exciting! So come along and start on your watercolour journey... I look forward to seeing you there!
