How to Make Friends w/ Soofiya | The Southern Belle
Cultural Experiences
Friendship is community. Community is friendship. This isn’t just something that happens—it’s something we make and build. But in a world where friendship has been reduced to likes, follows, and matches, how do we rethink and redesign the act of making friends and building communities in a way that truly works for us?
In this interactive session, designer and zine maker, Soofiya will guide us through friendship as a design problem. Together, we’ll map out our connections, reflect on how we form and sustain friendships, and sketch new ways of approaching friendship and in turn community, beyond the limits of social media algorithms and dating apps.
Through diagrams and discussion, this salon will offer space to reimagine friendship as something we can actively shape rather than passively receive. Expect a playful and thoughtful evening of drawing, sharing, and thinking differently about the ways we connect.
Come ready to make, map, and maybe even meet a new friend or two!
