Join our A Rocha Day Camp for a look at Biodiversity ! Explore what variety of living things share the ecosystems all around us. Join us for our Biodiversity Day Camp! We will spend every day (9am-3pm) outdoors , exploring the wetland, forest and farmland at A Rocha's BC Environmental Centre. Enjoy hands-on activities and discover life in our ecosystems! Bring your own snacks (both morning and afternoon), lunch and water bottle. Come dressed for activities in the outdoors, rain or shine . Wear a hat, and bring an extra layer andwaterproof outer jackets for wet days. Boots required for rain! Bring an extra set of clothes, just in case. (*please no umbrellas--we need our hands) For children ages 6 - 12 (finished Kindergarten). Come and learn about medicinal plants in the garden. Taste different teas from plants you can grow in your own garden. Ana Dushyna is a botanical pharmacology specialist, Master of Science in Pharmacy, Speaker, Certified Landscaper, and a Herbal Garden Designer. She devotes her expertise to encouraging people to grow and use well-researched medicinal plants from all around the world. She’s actively engaged in native plant restoration projects to help North America’s native plants to survive and thrive (Darts Hill Garden Native Plant Group, Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club), served on the board of Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society, an environmental organization; collaborates with North Vancouver’s Park and Tilford Garden. Born and raised in Europe, inspired by her grandmother, a doctor and ethnobotanist, she decided to continue exploring medicinal plants. Her programs combine science and history; practical recommendations on how to grow and harvest plants. From her perspective, herbs are unusual beauties, with their power to cure, stories and fairy tales to explore. Medicinal plants offer us diversity of shapes and colours, as well as refine aroma. At first glance, the world of medicinal plants may not be as bright as an ornamental one. But when you know each plant in your garden, you turn into a good magician with power to bring health and happiness to your dearest people. This class is hands-on in the garden; in case of rain, a covered outdoor space is available. Dress for the weather in clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty and prepare to enjoy a day of learning and creativity! Absolutely no experience is required.
