Hallé Musical Stars is a fun and interactive music-making session for pre-school aged children and their grown ups. Join one of our experienced Hallé practitioners for a weekly music session which will include sensory play, singing, musical games and activities, and the chance to play musical instruments. Hallé Musical Stars is split into two groups: Babies - from 3 months until walking Toddlers - from walking until age 4 Classes take place on Monday mornings at Hallé St Michael's in Ancoats, and are limited in size to ensure everyone has a memorable experience. Each session is 45 minutes long with time after to have a cup of tea and meet the other families. Tickets cost £6.50 per session. Accompanying adult is included in the ticket price. Add a sibling for £4.50 per session. Join us for a screening of Dora Fugh Lee: A Life In Art (2024) (30 minutes), followed by a conversation with documentary film director E. Samantha Cheng as we explore the extrodinary life of a Chinese-American painter who transformed China and America's contemporary art scene. This is event is led by YCW DC and hosted by the Sigur Center for Asian Studies. Location: Chung-wen Shih Conference Room, Room 503, George Washington University, 1957 E Street, NW Time: Doors open at 5:45, screening to begin at 6:00 Light beverages will be offered Born in 1929 , Dora Fugh Lee began studying classical Chinese painting and caligraphy as a young child in Beijing. Living at a time of enormous societal transformation, Lee was part of a generation of artists defining a new style of contemporary Chinese painting, building on and transforming traditional painting techniques. In 1957, Lee and her husband moved to Washington, D.C. where she trained in Western classical art. By merging the traditional approaches from her two homes, Lee developed a unique style of her own. She taught painting at George Washington University and at the Smithsonian Institution, and her works are part of the permanent collections at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the National Museum of Asian Art, and the National Cathedral among others. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E. Samantha Cheng is an American producer, director, writer, documentarian and journalist. She has devoted much of her career to raising the visibility of Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and women in technology and their contributions to United States history. Cheng is the president and co-founder of Heritage Series, LLC, which specializes in educational programs about ethnic minorities in the United States. She owned and operated the multi-media company, Television Production Services (TPS), for 25 years. Cheng is the writer, producer and director of Dora Fugh Lee: A Life in Art, which was aired on PBS.

Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Glenn Moore is a comedian, actor and one of the best and most prolific joke writers in the country. Glenn is a regular face on TV, having appeared on the likes of Live At The Apollo (BBC), Have I Got News For You (BBC), Mock The Week (BBC), 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown (Channel 4), The Russell Howard Hour (Sky), Guessable (Comedy Central), and The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV2). He is a regular guest on The Great American Joke Off (CW network) in the US. He has his own Radio 4 comedy series ‘Glenn Moore’s Alamanac’. He can be heard daily as one quarter of The Dave Berry Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio, the UK’s biggest commercial radio breakfast show. He’s also appeared regularly on The News Quiz (Radio 4) and The Now Show (Radio 4). Glenn’s 2022 Fringe show sold out with rave five star reviews from The Mail on Sunday, Chortle and The Courier, amongst a number of other publications. His critically-acclaimed stand-up show Glenn, Glenn, Glenn, How Do You Like It, How Do You Like It was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. In the summer of 2019-2020 communities across the entire continent of Australia experienced some of the worst bushfires in recent living memory. Known as the Black Summer Bushfires, the impact of these collective fire events’ was catastrophic on individuals and communities a like. Burnt into Memory will explore the complex impact of these events on individuals and communities within the context of reflection, healing, resilience and forward momentum. The exhibition will include work from artists living and working in the Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains Region and beyond, with works made immediate aftermath of the fires as well as more recent responses. Guest artists direct from Seville: Federico Nuñez from Argentinian roots and grew up in Seville, is one of Spains leading flamenco dancers today! Federico's Young, slender figure, prominent ethnic features, expressive body language is virtuosic, he is dazzling in his communicative ability. His mastery of the techniques that comprise the different schools of Spanish dance and flamenco is truly overwhelming. Consequently, his talents are in high demand for his art. Federico has performed with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia for several seasons, and has appeared as a soloist in the show Antonio... 100 Years of Art, and participated in the work Picasso y la danza, by film director Carlos Saura. He performs in numerous national and international flamenco tablaos, where he refined and developed his ongoing artisic evolution. Carlos Lobo born in Jerez. Vocalist, guitarist, author and composer. His first maestros were his mother and father. He began his professional singing career in flamenco fiestas and local street festivals. In 2010 he relocated to Chile and founded a group LaSmala. They went on to tour the world for the next eight years and recorded three albums. Today Carlos lives in Seville and works together with flamenco greats Jose Galvan and Pilar Ortega. He continues to study flamenco song from the maestro Juan Jose Amador. Ramon Ruiz born in Granada, Spain, Ramon is UK's leading Flamenco Guitarist. At the age of seven he started taking piano lessons. Five years later, inspired by his father's passion for flamenco, Ramon shifted his interest to flamenco guitar and has never looked back since. By the age of twenty he was performing alongside Spain's most renowned flamenco guitarists and dancers including Ramon Amador and Israel Galvan. furthermore, he performed for four years in ‘Los Gallos’ ranked as the best and most authentic flamenco club in Seville. After acquiring a solid foundation in flamenco dance and song accompaniment, Ramon permanently relocated to England where he furthered his career and musical collaborations. He performed in London's most prominent theatres including the Royal Albert Hall and the Purcell Room. In 2009 he was offered his first recording contract by Naim Audio producing the CD, Flamenco Havana, a blend of flamenco and Cuban music featuring Jose Amador, Segundo Falcon and Anita La Maltesa. In 2010 he participated in the production of a second album, Alcazaba, an interesting musical fusion blending flamenco with Middle Eastern and Asian sounds. Furthermore, he was collaborating in many other recordings including Born, the debut album by the sultry string quartet Bond and Days Distinctive by the acclaimed oud player Attab Haddad, one of this year's list of best world music releases. His interest in classical Spanish composers such as Manuel de Falla and Isaac Albéniz lead him to obtain a LTCL diploma in Classical guitar at the Trinity College, London. In addition to his musical career Ramon obtained a BA (Honours) in Music Education with QTS in the London Metropolitan University and is currently a registered flamenco guitar tutor at Kingston University, London. In essence, what makes Ramon's music so special, is the warmth and spirituality he brings to all his musical and personal encounters. Sebastian Ruiz born in London. Sebastian is the very talented son of Anita and Ramon. He has developed his playing and understandng of the art of Flamenco entirely by having had the incredible experiences of performing on tours both with his father, other flamenco artists and ultimately has toured and performed with an Indian Katak dance company fusing flamenco rhythms together with renowned Flamenco dancer Rebeca Ortega and singer Natalia Marin. Sebastian also has a BS with honours degree in Sound Engineering.
