Dorset Futsal Club will be rubbing shoulders with some of the best teams in England this Spring, with success in national league and cup competitions at stake. Watch HUGE games as the Dors look to make history! It's the BIG one - a semi-final against South London Inspire at the impressive Leaf Academy in the National Futsal Trophy, with a place in the final in Derby at stake. Then the Dors host Portsmouth in the quarter-finals of the promotion playoffs, with a place in the second tier of English futsal at stake. Be part of the fun and cheer the Dors to the double! RYA Diesel Engine Course The RYA Marine Diesel Engine course is an introductory course aimed at preventing breakdowns and solving basic problems at sea. Suitable for leisure boaters and those working on the water. Also a great confidence builder ahead of Yachtmaster exams. It is a one day course based in our training room in Poole. We have both training engines and parts to examine and work on. Usually taught by our Chief Instructor, Dom, he is keen to make this course practical and relevant. No experience necessary. We will look at how to use tools & options to include in your tool kit on board. During the course we will consider what spares to carry on board. We will also look at how the engine works, its components, routine maintenance and trouble shooting. We have a training engine (Beta 10) to take apart and reassemble but also plenty of parts from other engines to examine too. There is no final assessment, we just want people to contribute and participate in the day and to leave feeling confident and inspired to get more involved with the engines on their own boats. Our classroom is based at Parkstone Bay Marina overlooking Poole Harbour. During the day we will supply coffee and biscuits. Learn how to set a stone and make a beautiful ring in a day. Step by step demos help you to make a ring and set a cabochon gem stone, sea glass or beach pebble in a simple rub-over setting. A great introduction to stone setting and a way to introduce colour to your jewellery making. Use traditional silversmithing techniques to form and solder your ring shanks, learn how to make a setting and how to set and finish your rings. Suitable for complete beginners wanting to make a one-off piece of lovely jewellery, or someone looking add a new skill to their making. Materials are payable on the day due to the differing costs of stones etc. Both silver and a selection of gemstones or seaglass are available at the studio (as a rough estimation allow £10-£15 extra for materials). This VHF course allow you to apply for your Short Range Certificate (SRC) or 'Authority to Operate'. It is a one day courses taking place in the classroom with a short assessment at the end of the day. Why would I take this course? It is a requirement that anyone using a VHF marine radio has an Authority to Operate. In addition, you will learn how to use the radio gaining confidence at making calls and understanding how to use the radio to obtain safety information, call for help if needed and making routine calls. Who is this course for? This course is suitable for those using VHF radios on the water. It doesn't matter whether you are the helm on a boat or the crew, it is important that you understand how to use the radio and no previous experience is needed. What should I expect from the day? During the day we will look at the skills you need to operate a VHF radio. We will cover a little theory looking at the channels to use, who we might call, how to set up the radio to obtain the best chance of communication and we will also look at other types of equipments such as EPIRBs and Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs). The course is focussed on using the radio and understanding its functions not technical electronics! We like to give everyone on the course plenty of hands on practice on the training radios so that you are ready to leave the course and use your live radio with no worries. Who will teach me? The majority of our courses are taught by one of the partners in the business - either the Chief Instructor (Dom) or the Centre Principal (Sarah) What's Included? Your course book and course materials. During the day you will have use of one of our training radios and we provide plenty of tea, coffee and cookies! What extras are there? Come and make your own bangle in this great beginners workshop. Experiment with hammers to create textures or use decorative stamps and letter punches to personalise your work. You will try out a range of basic silversmithing skills including soldering, forming and polishing. Choose to make a single bangle or link multiple bands together, or use the fly press to create wavy or decorative shapes. Materials costs are payable on the day of the class and vary depending on number and size of bangles being made, but as a rough guide allow approx £25-£30 for a single chunky bangle.
