Play makes up 20% of children's primary school life. How do schools plan for this 20%? What are the roles of the play team? This event is for anyone interested in joining the OPAL Primary Programme and improving playtime for the children at their school! This is open to anyone considering how to make their playtimes amazing. 12pm– 1pm Observation of playtime Come and see a platinum OPAL playtime in action – ask the children about how they manage risk and the grown-ups about the changes they have seen. About Brookside Primary School Brookside is a primary school with approximately 320 pupils on roll (from nursery to Y6) located in a large village. It is a welcoming, friendly and inclusive school that has a local community feel. The school is set in extensive grounds with two playgrounds, a large playing field and a wildlife/forest school area. Brookside believes that learning should be enjoyable, purposeful, and challenging for every student, allowing them to reach their full potential. Their aim is to equip each child with the necessary skills to become independent and confident learners. Brookside has outstanding play provision and celebrated achieving a OPAL Platinum Award in April. The school has a large loose parts shed, a huge, natural sandpit, water play, den building, music, wheeled play, dressing up, arts and crafts, and a beautiful forest area. Philip Mould , art historian, dealer, and presenter of BBC1’s award-winning series Fake or Fortune? recounts the rediscovery of a significant lost painting by Winston Churchill, the subject of a recent episode. The talk will take place at one of Churchill’s wartime retreats, Ditchley Park, where Philip will share the insights he has gained into an amateur painter deeply passionate about his artistic pursuit. Although self-deprecatingly described by the artist as his 'pastime', Churchill's works are now highly sought after by collectors on both sides of the Atlantic and can sell for millions of pounds. Elder, Howie Mustus Jr, better known as Singing Horse, well trained in traditional, sacred ceremony and wisdom keeper is teaming up with Braydon, The Breath Warrior, to deliver a radical healing & transformational event this May 3rd. A 3 hour course introducing you to the art of wax carving and sculpting to create your very own unique ring to be cast in silver or brass. You will be working with Jewellers Wax, which is incredibly versatile and allows you to create something 3D, abstract, classic, chunky, geometric or organic, so you can let your imagination run wild! Hosted, in a traditional flint barn workshop which is nestled amongst the South Downs in the beautiful Cuckmere Haven (close to Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne & Hastings). You will be given a short introduction to the lost wax process and will shown the tools and techniques used to in wax carving. You will start by designing/sketching out your ring, (samples and images will be available for inspiration) before beginning to carve your wax. Once you’re happy with your finished carving we will show you how to prepare it for casting. After the workshop your wax carved ring will be cast, finished and polished using recycled silver or gold (an additional charge will apply for very chunky silver rings or gold castings). Your finished silver ring will be ready for collection or posting within 3 working weeks after the class. Extra services such as engraving, gold plating and stone setting are offered at an additional cost. These can be requested and paid for at the end of the class. The course cost includes a 5mm wide ring cast in silver. There may be an additional cost for larger rings. Gemstones start from £30 and up and include setting costs Gold plating ranges from £40-£60 Engraving starts from £45 Please note each of these services have a lead time of 3 working weeks on top of the casting/finishing time. A Gong Sound Bath is an hour of deep relaxation, lying down in Yoga Nidra, whilst bathing in the healing vibrations of Shamanic Drumming, Rattles clearing and the Gong. Edwin and Harshani create a safe healing space whilst taking you on a journey through the sounds of these different healing instruments:~ Yin and Yang Gongs, Earth Gong, Universal Symphonic Gong, Chinese wind gong; shamanic drumming and rattles and soothing ocean drum. The Gong Sound Bath is 7pm - 8pm and then we allow an additional 15 minutes for grounding and breathing practices before you leave relaxed, refreshed and restored.
