St. Paul’s Lutheran School is hosting their annual soccer camp June 2-June 5, at Central Ridge District Park located on Lecanto Hwy (Hwy 491). The camp is for children from entering grades Kindergarten through Grade 8 and will run from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Students may arrive 15 minutes prior to the start up. Your children will learn a variety of soccer skills along with experiencing success through team work. Your children will experience some great coaching as each day they work on specific skills in soccer and as they also learn truths of God’s Word. All the participants will receive a soccer ball, water bottle, and soccer t-shirt. For safety, we would like all kids to wear shin guards. Soccer shoes are optional. We will play through light rain, but in the event of a lightning storm, we will usher all children to the overhang by the concession stand. We will wait for parents or proper guardians to come and pick them up. If a participant is feeling sick, please keep them home to avoid spreading anything contagious. On Thursday, June 5, all parents are invited to come watch their children in action as they compete in soccer games. We will also be hosting a family Picnic on that Thursday after the games. All parents and families are invited to join us for the games and the picnic. The games will start at 10 a.m. and the picnic will start when the games are over (around 11:15). Register today if you haven’t already! The cost is $30 through May 5. After May 5, it will be $35 per participant! After May 25, the cost is $45 per participant. So don’t delay! Register today! Storytelling360 The State-of-the-Story Held at the newly renovated Writers Guild of America Theater in Beverly Hills, Screenwriting360 is the inaugural event in a highly curated series of discussion panels, providing practical insights into state-of-the-craft and profession of storytelling, featuring creative luminaries and industry leaders. Panelists will include accomplished screenwriters from television and film, producers and executives from studios, networks and streamers, as well as agents and managers. David Denby and Kenneth Turan are two beloved film critics who, between them, have held top film critic spots at The New Yorker, New York Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, and NPR. They don't confine themselves to the world of movies: they have both written extensively on literature: American and Yiddish. In his new book, Eminent Jews, David Denby, former film critic for The New Yorker and still a current contributor, examines four 20th century Jewish intellectuals who took America by storm: Leonard Bernstein, Mel Brooks, Betty Friedan, and Norman Mailer. Always candid, critical, and fully acknowledging and fully appreciating their massive contribution to American culture, Denby sets apart these four exceptional individuals from their peers in the arts and social movements. Kenneth Turan is so much more than a film critic. For years, we read his reviews in the Los Angeles Times, and then had the great pleasure of listening to him review movies for NPR. He is dedicated to preserving Yiddish literature, and is on the board of the National Yiddish Book Center. The author of countless books on film, Kenny now turns to two film legends who essentially created Hollywood and the film industry: Irving Thalberg and Louis B. Mayer. In his new book, Louis B. Mayer and Irving Thalberg: The Whole Equation, Turan explores their complex relationship. They worked together like brothers-- until their relationship bitterly imploded. And besides being a terrific study of two men whose business and creative acumen changed global culture and society, it's a crucial reflection of Jews in Hollywood at its nascence.
