Drowning remains a leading cause of death across the islands, and in a recent Civil Beat investigation, reporter Caitlin Thompson uncovered a disturbing shift where local residents have accounted for nearly as many ocean drownings as tourists. What is behind this trend? And more importantly, what can be done to help locals avoid this horrible fate. Background Two of the things I love are connecting people who can potentially help each other in some way and playing golf (or at least trying to…) So I’ve decided to combine the two and set up this monthly golf networking group based in Yorkshire. I am particularly passionate about making golf inclusive and more accessible, therefore this group is for golfers of all abilities. Whether you’ve never held a golf club in your life but want to give it a go or whether you play off scratch, you will be very welcome. The only requirement is that you’re prepared to support and encourage other members of ‘The Club’, regardless of where they are in their golfing journey. In addition to getting to play golf, members of The Club get to meet a wide range of professionals from across the Yorkshire business community and beyond. The current format is that we spend an hour on the range or other practice facilities with coaching from professionals and an hour having lunch and a chat. Due to this format, I have had to cap the number of attendees each month to 30. There are loads of great opportunities to play golf in the Yorkshire business community, if you have the ability and time to play 18 holes.
