Photo of children wearing brightly coloured hats and coats credit Matthew Roberts We all know nature makes us feel so much better, so come along to join in with family activities that remind us what to do and where to go when we are in need of a natural boost! Children will create their own natural relaxation kit bag from an upcycled adults t-shirt. Please ensure you bring a clean, unwanted adults t-shirt with you (per child) and a clean, unwanted odd child's sock too! Due to the nature of the activities, this session is suitable for children of a minimum age of five years old, and would also be fun for young people of up to the age of about fourteen years old . Younger siblings in prams/buggies under 18 months old, would be fine accompanying too. Please book a ticket for everyone who is attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Wildlife Trust BCN member and non-member tickets available. Are you a member of the Wildlife Trust BCN? You can get money off your ticket by selecting a member ticket (we may ask for your membership number upon arrival for verification purposes). Non-members £7:50 per child plus booking fee. Members £5:00 per child plus booking fee. Lots to do indoors and outdoors too, so wear long trousers and sensible shoes with closed toes and do bring raincoats. The session will run for 1 and 3/4 hours approximately. Sorry no dogs (except assistance dogs) are allowed in the Environmental Education Area. Please do not attend if you or your family feel unwell or have COVID-19. In this instance please contact Debbie as soon as possible on the mobile number below. 0773 447 8475 or 01480 473161 Please call Debbie in advance to ensure we assist with any mobility elements as necessary. Please park in the main car park opposite the Visitors Centre, and please be aware the road outside the education centre is used all day by haulage lorries accessing the quarry, so please keep children close on the way to and from the car park. Meet and finish outside the Red Lion Pub on Front Street of village outside War Memorial. A short walk around a historical village with a magnificent church and memorial to a pit disaster that resulted in a change of legislation in the mining industry. The village dates back to the Iron Age, with tales of civil war, French prisoners and First and Second World Wars. There is a path and some steps in churchyard going to Memorial. Therefore this stage of the walk is unsuitable for wheel chairs. Booking will secure your place but walk-ups will be available on the day. If you are a 2025 season ticket holder, remember you MUST bring along your ticket or you will be asked to pay for your tour. Tour lasts approx 1.5hrs Assistance dogs only. No other pets allowed. Safety Information To attend our walks you need to be reasonably fit, prepared to be responsible for your own safety, and to supervise any children in your care. Appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended. A bottle of water, an umbrella and an extra layer wouldn't go amiss. The British weather is notoriously changeable! Newcastle is an historic city with uneven pavements and narrow passages add to its unique character. There are also often steps to navigate. Our walks take approximately 90 minutes, are you comfortable walking and standing for that length of time? If there’s any activity you are unable to do or if you have a concern, please contact us at newcastlecityg@gmail.com before booking. We try to stick to footpaths and use pedestrian crossings where available. If you have any pre-medical conditions or injuries that may affect you walking or feel unwell during a walk, please let your Guide know. Standard Disclaimer Your participation in the guided walk is at your own risk and we shall not be held liable under any circumstances for any matter arising out of your participation. We accept no responsibility or liability for loss or injury (other than for matters for which we are not legally able to exclude or limit liability). We have public liability insurance. An evening of Parisian-flavoured jazz and Gypsy Swing ★ ★ ★ ★ “intelligent, interesting and inventive” THE JAZZ MANN “excellent band…diverse numbers, smart arrangements" JAZZ JOURNAL Swing from Paris are an all-string jazz quartet of violin, guitars and double bass, inspired by the music of the 1930s, ’40s and '50s. Expect stylish jazz and vintage swing , from Benny Goodman, Charlie Christian and Artie Shaw to Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the master of tango Astor Piazzolla. The group's Parisian-flavoured jazz and gypsy swing has been delighting audiences for over 15 years: from major jazz festivals including the Django Reinhardt Festival at Samois-sur-Seine, to being invited to perform at the French Ambassador's residence for Bastille Day. Tickets Tickets £18 in advance, £20 on the door. Early bird tickets at £16 Under 18s £ 10 (must be accompanied by an adult) Timings Doors and bar open 7pm . Performance 7.30pm - 9.30pm (including 20min interval) . About the band: Swing from Paris are Tomasz Williams (double bass), Andy Bowen (electric guitar), Fenner Curtis (violin), Sam Hughes (acoustic guitar). They enjoy creating and playing their own arrangements of music they love, mostly inspired by the swing era of the 1930s, 40s and 50s: including music by Gershwin, Piazzolla, Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France. They have appeared at major jazz festivals including Cheltenham, Brecon and the Django Reinhardt Festival at Samois sur Seine, and performed at the French Ambassador's residence for Bastille Day. The band started out of a chance meeting of Andy Bowen and Fenner Curtis, when they both sat in at a Birmingham University jazz club jam session. Already fans of the music of the guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli, they started a group and began playing regularly across their home county of Gloucestershire. Following formative years as a dedicated Django Reinhardt ensemble, they widened their repertoire to include many other greats of the era and beyond – and welcomed members Sam Hughes on guitar and Tomasz Williams on double bass in the late 2010s. Their latest recording together is I Love Paris (2024), available on vinyl, CD and digital. Listen On Spotify or visit swingfromparis.co.uk Find social links and mailing list via linktr.ee/swingfromparis Audience comments: "Absolutely wonderful" "A truly spectacular and accomplished group” “Fabulous musicians, fabulous arrangements. Can't recommend enough!” “Highly recommended. Wonderful performance” Reviews ★ ★ ★ ★ "their love for, and knowledge of, their chosen material is wide and deep, but nevertheless they put their own stamp on it" - THE JAZZ MANN "successful partnering of acoustic with electric guitar distinguishes the band’s sound…symphonious violin, soulful guitar and heart-rending bass” Jazz Journal "Clever interpretations and adaptations … what a performance by this Cotswold-based combo" – Nub News "awe-inspiring…The band members have real rapport with one another" - Swindon Link Information Source: Swing from Paris | eventbrite
