Halifax-born musician, singer-songwriter and producer
Rich Aucoin
launched his solo career in 2007 with his
Personal Publication
EP. He quickly made a name for himself by merging his ambitious and exploratory brand of Pop music with impressive feats of endurance, notably a coast-to-coast bike tour and a series of running marathons, with each of these feats supporting a different charity. Thus, even before the release of his first full album
We're All Dying to Live
in 2011 (featuring over 500 guests!), Aucoin had grown his reputation as a highly-captivating artist. The following albums, such as 2014’s
Ephemeral
and 2019’s
Release
only cemented his stature as a fully-fledged Indie-pop auteur. In 2020, he continued to defy expectations by releasing
United States
, a psychedelic travel diary. This effort was followed by
Synthetic : Season 1
in 2022, the first volume of a four-part tentacular opus composed with the rare and historic synth collection of Calgary’s National Music Centre, where he held residency. Aucoin followed with
Synthetic - A Synth Odyssey : Season 2
in 2023, on which he again played a range of instruments, including 40 synths from the Alberta-based collection. Synth Season 3 debuted in October 2024.
Can machines sing? With his Synthetic album cycle, Rich Aucoin answers that question with a resounding, exuberant "yes." The four-part project sweeps listeners through a gallery tour of synthesis history, giving voice to a chorus of specimens from the past century of electronic sound. On Season 3, Aucoin deepens his dive into the variegated genealogy of dance music, charting a joyful course through the many flavors of rave euphoria.
From March 2020 through February 2024, Aucoin recorded Synthetic: Season 3 during a series of visits to the National Music Centre in Calgary and the Vintage Synthesizer Museum in Los Angeles. Among these collections, he found historic synthesizers ranging from the ubiquitous to the esoteric, each with its own voice just waiting to be jolted to life.
During these sessions, Aucoin took the opportunity to air out some of synth history's most iconic instruments. "Moog" delights with roiling, retrofuturistic arpeggios drawn from a Minimoog: the 1970 portable synthesizer beloved by Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, and Parliament-Funkadelic. With "ElectroComp," Aucoin brings the 1969 EML ElectroComp 200 squarely into the techno era, shaping whispery accents with its analog filters. Album closer "Optigan" adorns jittery breakbeats with wistful melodies from an organ-style keyboard released in 1971 by American toymaker Mattel. On "M1," Aucoin pulls classic deep house beats from the computerized brain of one of the best-selling synthesizers in history. The Korg M1 consolidated functions from a variety of machines into a streamlined digital workstation in 1988, bearing heavily on the crisp, icy sounds of the late '80s and early '90s.
Throughout Season 3, you'll also hear the songs of much rarer birds. "Delta Music Research" sees Aucoin working an obscure modular system built in Calgary in the 1980s to churn out rollicking acid house loops. For "Sonica," he siphons trance bliss from the button-inlaid fretboard of the 1979 Frank Eventoff synth of the same name: a wooden, sitar-shaped device that was released in a run of 650 units. On "Synthi," Aucoin commandeers an EMS Synthi 100 -- a 1971 digital/analog hybrid synthesizer housed in a massive wooden cabinet and limited to just a few dozen builds -- for a deliciously squelchy tech-house romp.
From the mass-produced to the bespoke, each synthesizer on Synthetic: Season 3 sends a transmission from its makers' own historical vision of the future. The instruments' tactile interfaces -- from fields of patch jacks to 50-year-old optical discs to rows and rows of voltage dials -- all lend embodied dimension to the practice of shaping sound from raw electricity. Each of them carries a story about what might have tumbled into being from the moment of their creation. In awakening these machines, Aucoin cross-pollinates a choir of futures into an ecstatic, reverential present.

The Fabulously Rich: Honouring the Legacy of The Tragically Hip
The Fabulously Rich: Honouring the Legacy of The Tragically Hip
Long before The Fabulously Rich formed, fate brought our frontman, Dennis Ellsworth, into an extraordinary collaboration with Gord Downie. Together, they crafted a musical rendition of Gord’s poignant poem Coke Machine Glow, featured on Dennis’s Hazy Sunshine album, recorded at The Tragically Hip’s iconic Bathhouse Studio. That collaboration sparked a lasting friendship—leading to backstage invitations, road hangouts, and Gord’s signature spontaneous check-ins. That personal connection continues to fuel every performance we give.
Our journey as The Fabulously Rich began in 2016 with what was meant to be a one-time fundraiser in Charlottetown after Gord’s illness made headlines. But something special happened that night. People wanted more, and venues started calling. It was clear The Hip’s music still resonated deeply.
What started as a one-off event has grown into a shared purpose: keeping The Hip’s music and the experience of their shows alive. We’ve all been shaped by their songs in different ways. From their vivid storytelling rooted in Canadian history to those unmistakable guitar riffs, The Hip captured the country’s spirit like no one else. Their dedication to addressing important issues, especially raising awareness of Indigenous rights, set them apart. At The Fabulously Rich, we’re committed to playing their music with the same energy and authenticity that made their performances unforgettable.
We’ve been incredibly fortunate to perform for audiences big and small, earning the respect of fans and building a dedicated following of our own. We look forward to keeping this going for as long as we can—and hope to see you at a show!

Frank Kadillac and Adrian Morris became fast friends after Kadillac moved to Halifax, Canada and the two quickly started making music together as Neon Dreams. In the years that have followed, the duo has garnered Gold (and now Platinum) singles; accumulated over 100 million streams; played sold-out international shows after their single “Life Without Fantasies” became a sensation across Europe, South Africa and won numerous Canadian awards—including a coveted JUNO. But the project has always meant so much more to Kadillac than accolades, and that was affirmed during his time in South Africa between the music community and meditation retreats that have inspired an ongoing creative evolution. Kadillac’s continuous messages of positivity can be traced throughout their catalog as uplifting songs about not fitting in and overcoming adversity are peppered throughout.

Sloan is a Toronto-based rock band from Halifax, Nova Scotia who first performed in spring of 1991. Comprised of bassist and vocalist Chris Murphy, guitarists/vocalists Jay Ferguson and Patrick Pentland, and drummer/vocalist Andrew Scott, the quartet possessed a rare chemistry from the start. There are so many moments peppered throughout the 30-year history of Canadian indie rock heroes Sloan that set them well apart from the pack. From the band’s earliest home studio recordings that married their pop smarts with fizzy, fuzzed out guitars, right up to later efforts that contain multitudes in their track listings, ranging from Dylanesque streams of consciousness to short, sharp blasts of power pop - Somehow, it all remains quintessentially Sloan. The band are credited as being a main instigator for the Canadian East Coast alternative scene of the early 90s, garnering comparisons to the Seattle Grunge movement on the opposite coast. Over the course of their quarter-century career, Sloan have amassed an outstanding collection of over 250 songs and more than 30 singles with airplay at Canadian Rock Radio. Sloan have received nine Juno Award nominations and won for Best Alternative Album in 1997. The band was named one of Canada’s top five bands of all-time in a CBC critics poll.
