Workshop Description: Join our Fashion Fix workshops, part of the Roots to Renewal initiative, and unleash your creativity! Explore the art of upcycling, experiment with natural dyeing, and develop your garment-making skills as you work on exciting projects and patterns. Whether you’re new to sewing or an experienced maker, these sessions are designed to help you create unique, sustainable pieces fit for the catwalk. Kate the owner, has been involved with cows since she was a little girl and is no stranger in the cattle show ring. Together with her husband they started their own pedigree breed British Blondes, with her price winning bull (Boxy *). She will show you around the animals before we start our painting session in the barn overlooking the fields, smelling fresh straw and air. Join botanist and reserves manager Jim who will guide you to some of the less frequented areas of Potteric Carr to explore the plants that are only found in fen habitat. This event will involve venturing further out on the reserve and is a wilder experience. Who knows what other wildlife you might see as you explore Piper Marsh! Photo credit - Jim Horsfall Embrace your wild side - what to expect: This event takes place outdoors, so be prepared to be outside in all weathers. If, however, the weather is extremely windy or heavy rain, there is a possibilty the event will be cancelled. Where to meet Please meet us in the discovery zone woodlands, which are a 10-15 minute walk from the visitor centre and car park. This is a drop in event, you can arrive anytime inbetween the event start and finish but we will close at 1:30pm promt. What to bring/wear Our events mostly take place outside so brace yourself for the Yorkshire weather! We'd recommend sturdy and waterproof footwear or wellies, and lots of layers! If it's a hot day, remember a hat and suncream! Insect repellent and insect nets are highly recommended during the months of May-Sept. Event Description: Join Estelle from Fashion Fusion, Suaan of Attfelt and Bex from Plantaura and Wellbean Social Garden for a hands-on session as we create the brand new Colour and Tea Garden at Doncaster Gallery, Library and Museum-a key part of the Roots to Renewal initiative! Get involved and discover the fascinating world of dye plants as we plant, nurture, and learn about the flowers, roots, and leaves that will bring colour to our community’s creative projects. This is your chance to dig in, ask questions, and find out how nature inspires sustainable fashion. While you help grow the garden, you’ll also hear about all the exciting Roots to Renewal events and workshops coming up-including our community fashion show on 15th November, where your creativity can shine on the catwalk! During the session, we’ll also be decorating fabrics using our freshly planted garden as inspiration. The fabrics we create will become part of a unique, upcycled garment for the fashion show-and your input and ideas will help shape the final piece.
