Fiddle Hell UK: Newark 27-29 June 2025Fiddle Hell is back in the UK after an extended Covid break. From it's origins in Buxton in 2004 we are moving to Newark in support of the schools of musical instrument crafts that include woodwind, piano, guitar and the world-renowned Newark School of Violin Making. Whether you know it as a violin or a fiddle, if you are passionate about playing in any shape or form, there is a place for you at Fiddle Hell. This has always been a free self-organising event, we just want to use tickets to gauge numbers and keep in touch so that we can approach other venues as things pan out and use eventbrite to keep information up to date. What happens: Everything kicks off at the Fox & Crown in Appleton Gate near the violin school and the Governor's House on the market square is open through the weekend with a labyrinth of large 15th century rooms, and the Flying Circus is offering a big welcome too. If you are interested in any form of string playing, or accompanying instruments come along to play or just come to listen. Get in touch if there's something specific you want to bring to the event. We'll keep you updated as we know how things develop. The Main Event: Saturday 28th is the main event so if you can only make it for the day come along for that day only. About Newark Instrument Making: For over fifty years Newark has been the home of courses in violin making, woodwind and piano maintenance and repair and guitar making, but they are under threat which is why Fiddle Hell UK is convening here to give them support, and perhaps to find a permanent home. Almost every child that plays a musical instrument depends upon the skills of Newark alumni to make the instruments playable and keep them well-maintained and musicians up to the greatest artists, soloists, bands and orchestras need the assistance of makers and repairers before they even begin to play music: Luthiers are the unsung heroes of the muscial world. With problems plaguing these last remaining full-time courses in the UK, well reported in the press, we are here to give them support and to say #FHUKNewark.
