Join us for The Hummingbird Project's 10th Anniversary Celebration! The event will take place at the Brighthelm Centre and the programme will include live music performances, poetry, a fundraising auction, and reflections from people who have been a part of our journey. The full line-up will be announced in the coming weeks on our Instagram. The Hummingbird Project began as a volunteer-led project supporting displaced people in the Calais 'Jungle', a refugee camp in France, before moving our services to Brighton following the refugee camp in 2016. Now, we support over 300 young people each year through our weekly youth group, Global Social Club, Young Women's Group, Young Leaders programme, 1:1 advocacy and casework support, and our recent clinical psychologist service, Side by Side, in partnership with the Helen Bamber Foundation. As we navigate a time of financial difficulty, we have been overwhelmed by the support of our community. The ticket proceeds and money raised on the day will support us to continue our work going forwards. We look forward to spending the day celebrating with you! Whether you have been a part of Hummingbird since the beginning or you're a new face wanting to learn about the ogranisation, all are welcome. We welcome you to share music, memories, and chai with us for a day of community and celebration. There are three ticket prices available. Please choose the one which best reflects your cicrumstances. If finances are a barrier to you attending, please do get in touch and we can offer a concession price. This will be a youth-friendly and alcohol-free event. Please do share our fundraising campaign on your social media. Arts Film
The Independent Horror Society has been dedicated to supporting grassroots horror cinema for over 10 years, and we're so proud to have 2,100+ committed horror fans and filmmakers in our ranks. We have launched the Indie Film Showcase to do what we love best -- bringing incredible short genre films from hugely talented filmmakers, to the wonderful UK horror community. And in June we hosted a brand-new line up of short films in London, showcasing a superb range of projects from all over the globe. But with so much passion and hard work having gone into each and every film on the line up, we want as many folk as possible to see them. Which is why we're delighted to be able to take them out on the road -- and our next stop will be the glorious city of Brighton! What's more, 20% of all profit made on ticket sales will go straight into our Creators Fund -- so by coming along, you're actively helping creators fund their next projects! So join us at the Caroline Of Brunswick on Ditchling Road for a night of fun, meeting new friends, networking, and of course -- over 2 solid hours of incredible short horror films. Doors open at 6:30pm, with films starting at 6:45pm. There will also be a short break between blocks. (Please note: standard IHS Members can get tickets for £11, and IHS Pro members get them for just £6. Please see our member hubs for the codes!) Here's a quick preview of what's in store: Alexa, Stop. UK, Dir: Sam Dixon An errant Alexa causes problems for a girl alone at night. Babushka UK, Dir: Jon James Smith Annie Parker-Reed is desperate to protect her young daughter from the evil she inherited, but when they find an old Babushka doll in the attic, the past finds them both. Bath Bomb USA, Dir: Colin G. Cooper A possessive doctor prepares an ostensibly romantic bath for his narcissistic boyfriend, but after an accusation of infidelity, things take a deeply disturbing turn. I See You’re Alone UK, Dir: Danielle Spontak A music producer receives a creepy song from her boss and listens to it alone in her home. The more she listens to it, the scarier it gets. Eyeballs start to materialize around her and before she realizes what’s going on – it’s too late. The music producer dies and her eyes have been taken... Make Me A Pizza USA, Dir: Talia Shea Levin A very hungry woman tells a pizza delivery guy she can’t pay for the pizza she ordered. But can the sex she offers instead of currency possibly equate to the true value of a pizza? Is there anything that can be worthy of pizza, aside from what the market has decided? Moonlight Haunts UK, Dir: Kayal Karuppiah Hallow sleeps, but not alone. Sometimes it’s better to ignore sounds in the night. Nettle Day UK, Dir: Jack Nicholls An idealistic young teacher’s faith in kindness is ripped apart as she struggles to save a destructive child from being kicked out of school. Square Peg UK, Dir: Molly Comerford Edwin, a lonely, narcissistic vampire, returns home after a restock to lament about life and his yearning to be normal to his best friend Morris – a decapitated head that loathes his guts. The Birdwatcher UK, Dir: Ryan Mackfall Investigators approach a bird watching hut deep in the forest following the disappearance of a grieving man. As they piece together his final moments, the evidence they gather becomes increasingly unnerving and hard to explain. The Eyes of Marge UK, Dir: Lily Howkins A self-hating social worker traumatised by his sister’s death from domestic abuse, is plagued by phone calls from an unknown woman looking for her dead sister. The Feed UK, Dir: Graham Robertson A man is dragged deep into a black forest, where the sound of a fiddle stirs something in the darkness. Cultural Experiences
"So, what is speed dating?" Quite simply.... You'll get the chance to meet up to 15 dates, each lasting around five minutes, plenty of time to see if there's a spark. Ladies stay at the same table and gentlemen rotate. Working, successful professionals, make up the majority of our attendees. People who are sick of swiping and looking for something long term. And you will be able to enjoy the event in a friendly and safe atmosphere, knowing that everyone there is signed up is single! The following day you'll be able to enter your matches and hopefully arrange date #2 via our secure messaging service. Please remember to enter your matches before 4pm as this is when the matching system closes. And yes… While it may seem like a far cry away right now… There are hundreds of thousands of working professionals in Brighton, floating in the same boat as you. They are tired of going out looking for love. They are sick of swiping tediously on dating apps. They just want to meet someone special. How hard can that be right? Well it's time for a reality check... Living in a city like Brighton , where we all have busy lives, and an abundance of options makes dating actually very difficult. The odds of finding Mr or Mrs Right are so much higher when you attend an event where the people in attendance are all looking for the same thing as you! Speed Dating Events Are More Popular Than Ever In Brighton But aren't dating events weird and creepy and the type of people who attend would never be your type? Well… It's a misconception that has completely changed. Speed dating events are more popular than ever as more and more people are turning to them as an antidote to dating online . "So, what happens at our events?" Quite simply: No event is the same. Each event has different attendees . Everyone has signed up officially. And guess what? The odds of you finding someone goes way up! And our fantastic hosts will be on hand to make introductions throughout the night. Register for our next event now! Places are limited and we do sell out the majority of our events so book now to avoid disappointment. We have years of experience organizing dating events and matching couples. It's what we are most passionate about. And we are so confident you will find at least one person you would want to see again that if you don't, your next event is completely free! So why not ditch your online dating game and put yourself out there in a real-life dating event hosted by us. Important Information On the day of the event, please look out for an email from True Dating, as it will have the details of your account. You'll need this to enter your matches the following day. The event will start at 7.30pm. We have an area reserved inside, please ask for True Dating on your arrival and you will be directed to our reserved area. Venue Closes at 1am. Stop Swiping. Start Dating. Information Source: True Dating | eventbrite

Summer School: Portrait Painting with Peter James Field | Draw Brighton

Summer School: Portrait Painting with Peter James Field | Draw Brighton

Aug 11, 2025 (UTC+1) ENDED
Brighton and Hove
Cultural Experiences
We are delighted to welcome illustrator and fine artist Peter James Field to the Draw studio for a three-day portrait painting Summer School. Known for his considered and impactful oil portraits, Peter will be leading attendees through his approach to portraiture, with a grisaille underpainting in acrylic followed with glazes of oil paint for colour. Over three days, Peter will show how these methods established during the Renaissance can unlock intense, emotive colour in contemporary paintings. The course is suitable for people with drawing experience and will involve plenty of one-to-one support from Peter over the three days. What to Expect Day One: We will be working from life with a model and props for this first day, gathering resources of our sitter. Alongside sketches and drawings, each attendee will get some one-to-one time with a model for their own mini photoshoot, directing them and making some photographic imagery to develop our paintings. By the end of the day, you will have decided on a sketch you would like to take forward into a painting. Day Two: Building on our chosen drawing from Day 1, Peter will introduce the grisaille method for our underpaintings, looking at examples and benefits of the approach. You will spend the day developing your own grisaille underpaintings with Peter’s support. Day Three: We will be exploring how to fully resolve our paintings as Peter introduces the coloured glazing in oil, looking at how we can bring our grisaille underpaintings to life. Students will work on glazing their portraits with feedback from Peter. There will be presentations and demonstrations throughout the course with Peter on hand for support and advice. Get ready for some fresh sea air and coastal views - August’s Netwalking takes us to the seaside! It’s peak summertime in Brighton, and there’s no better time to escape the office and enjoy a refreshing walk by the sea. As you stroll and enjoy the sights, you’ll make new connections in a relaxed setting where you can move naturally between conversations. We’ll kick things off at Brighton Marina Yacht Club - a floating clubhouse perched on a pontoon, giving you the unique experience of rising and falling with the tide. We’ll enjoy hot drinks and pastries as we take in the panoramic marina views. Then we’ll set off, following the undercliff path and weaving through the scenic Sheepcote Valley, before looping back to the marina. Along the way, our fantastic Netwalking guide, Kerry Watkins (Founder of Social for Good), will share fascinating stories and insights about the landmarks and landscapes we’re exploring. Netwalking has been a highlight of the Chamber events calendar for over four years, taking us everywhere from seafront art trails and bluebell-filled Stanmer Park to the historic lanes of Lewes. It’s more than just a walk - it’s a chance to build meaningful connections, get inspired and experience the best of Brighton’s outdoors. So lace up your walking shoes, grab your sunglasses and join us for a summer adventure! Copy by Capture Your Spark. With thanks to our sponsor, Barclays Eagle Labs . FAQs What's the refund policy?
