The Black Experience will kick-off with a "Blackety-Black All-Black themed party from 7:00-10:30pm. It will feature a live band, best dress contest, dance off competition & more! Will you be the one to win one of our cash prizes? The ticket also includes food and 1-ticket to the cash bar. Grab your crew and throw on your best black 'fit and enjoy a night out on the town! Ticket price is $30.00 and it includes a registration to The Black Experience conference on Saturday.
The Black Experience:
The Black Experience is a conference designed to bring Black joy for families in Greater Grand Rapids. It includes a Business Expo and Exhibits, local and national plenary, and workshop speakers, live entertainment, food and much more! The mominal entry fee is $5.00 for adults 18+. It is free for students and Elders 60+. Registration helps us with food, set-up and planning for the day.
The Black Experience Business Expo:
The Black Experience Business Expo features premier Black-owned businesses and more. The vendors will be located indoors and will include business of all types from food, non-profits, corporations and more! The Business Expo will be open 12pm-4:00pm Saturday of The Black Experience.
If you are interested in becoming a vendor, it is open to all vendors and we have early bird pricing.
The expo will be indoors and near our kids' corner, which features free activities for youth of all ages. The expo is open to all businesses, non-profits, corporations in the community. Get access to the hundreds of people who will visit The Black Experience!

West Michigan Native Plant Yard Tour | Tour Stop in Grand Rapids

Learn about habitat conservation and how to create space for wildlife in our diverse human-dominated landscapes.
Tour is self-guided with at least 10 stops - currently 12, including 10 residential yards and 2 bonus church landscapes.
You start and stop whenever and wherever you like.
Landowners, and hopefully volunteer docents, will be on hand at each stop to help interpret the landscape and answer your questions.
Registrants will receive a reminder email NLT August 1 with a link to the tour e-book which will include the details of each tour stop – one or more pics, a yard description, and the exact address for each stop.
Tickets are limited to be sure of a quality experience, and we do expect to sell out.
Net proceeds support the Kent Conservation District programs and services.

The Homebuyer Education Class is a 5-hour fun and interactive class covering topics on:
Preparing for homeownership
Fair Housing
Advantages and disadvantages of homeownership
Shopping for a home
Low-cost ways to get into homeownership
The process for applying for a mortgage
Pre-purchase and closing processes
And more!
This class is held in person on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 9am to 4pm with a break for lunch.
It is required that you and anyone else on the future loan attend the full 6-hour class, which entitles you to a MSHDA, HUD, or other program certification, that is valid for one year. Certificates will be granted directly to you to pass onto a lender or program staff. We will keep records of your attendance as verification.
In addition to the registration via Eventbrite, the intake packet must be filled out and it will be linked in the confirmation email upon registration.
Registration
$20 for the first registrant, $5 for additional registrants in the same household. The $5 fee is not for friends, only additional members of a household; Friends must pay $20 as another independent registrant.
The class closes 48 hours before the first session and/or when at capacity. No day-of registrations; class participants must be registered for the class.
All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Fees may be waived for those with proof of hardship.
Please do not bring children to in-person classes. ICCF is unable to provide childcare. If this is a barrier, please register for a Zoom class or the self-paced class (Framework).
Cancelation Policy, Late Arrivals, and No Shows
Once registered, the participant is holding a spot, therefore reservations for this event are nonrefundable.
Class participants who are more than 20 minutes late OR miss one part of a two part class will need to reschedule for the next available class and pay the full fees.
