This class builds a positive relationship with the water while establishing safe habits with age-appropriate activities. Participants will gain confidence through successful learning of basic swimming skills. Key fundamentals include unsupported floating and efficient air recovery techniques. We focus on developing overall water competence and proper body positioning in the water. Swim School ages 6 – 12 years
This class aims to cultivate positive attitudes towards swimming, establish good swimming habits, and promote safe practices in and around the water. Participants will be grouped according to their current ability level to ensure personalized instruction. The curriculum emphasizes the development of fundamental skills, including learning to float independently, achieving effective air recovery, building overall water competence, mastering proper body position, developing forward movement, and executing direction changes. For experienced swimmers looking to elevate their skills, this class provides in-depth instruction on Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Breaststroke. The curriculum also emphasizes building significant endurance and advanced safety proficiency, with the goal of achieving swim team readiness. To provide an opportunity for participants to strengthen relationships with their family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbors through fun activities as well as strengthen the bond between the U.S. and Japan. Teams of 4-15 Runners run a 1.4KM relay course for 3 hours and compete for the most laps to win prizes. Participation Age: 6 years and older Qualifications: Age 6 and older who can run a lap without parental support. Participants are not permitted to run carrying a child in their arms, on their backs, or using baby carriers. Jogging Strollers are not permitted. Runners who are blind or with disabilities are welcome to participate in the race and must have a partner to provide assistance. However, service dogs and wheelchairs are not permitted on the running course. StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Blended Learning Certification Course | Iwakuni

Get your StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification at the IronWorks Main Gym. This class is from Dec 21 – 23 from 11am to 5 pm. for $150, covering essential lifeguarding techniques, water rescue skills, CPR/AED training, and first aid protocols. All supplies are included in the course. Open to all base personnel. Limited spots available! This is a blended learning course, and online content will be sent no later than 1 week before the course and MUST be completed prior to the first day of class. Please note that participants are required to pass a pre-requisite swimming evaluation before they can attend the Lifeguard Certification Course. If a participant does not pass the pre-requisite, they will be eligible for a full refund of the course fee. However, once the lifeguard certification course has commenced, the fee becomes non-refundable if a participant does not pass the course. Active duty requiring American Red Cross certification, please contact the Aquatics Office (253-4966). Successful completion of the Lifeguard Course will result in the following certifications for one year: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. Students must be 15 years old on or before the last day of the course and must be able to pass the prerequisite skills down below: • Swim 300 meters continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs keeping your arms crossed and hands under the armpits. • Surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface. No goggles are authorized to be used in this event. • All pre-requisites will be completed at the beginning of the course. Lifeguard Certification Course (May 2025); Semper Fit Aquatics Events Get your StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification at the WaterWorks Outdoor Pool. This class is May 31 – June 1 from 9AM – 4PM for $100, covering essential lifeguarding techniques, water rescue skills, CPR/AED training, and first aid protocols. All supplies are included in the course. Open to all base personnel. Limited spots available! Please note: Online content must be completed before the first day of the course. Participants are required to pass a pre-requisite swimming evaluation. If a participant does not pass the pre-requisites, they will be eligible for a full refund of the course fee. However, once the lifeguard certification course has commenced, the fee becomes non-refundable if a participant does not pass the course. Active duty requiring American Red Cross certification, please contact the Aquatics Office (253-4966). Successful completion of the Lifeguard Course will result in the following certifications for one year: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. Students must be 15 years old on or before the last day of the course and must be able to pass the prerequisite skills down below: • Swim 50 meters sprint and 50 meters with a rescue tube. You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may not be used. • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs. • Starting in the water, retrieve a 10-pound object from a minimum depth of 9 ft and return it to the surface. No goggles are authorized to be used in this event. • All pre-requisites will be completed at the beginning of the course.
