The evening will commence with a book signing and reception at 5:00pm ET in the Carnegie Museum of Art Café, followed by the lecture at 6:00pm ET in the theater. Momoyo Kaijima, a celebrated figure in contemporary architecture, co-founded Atelier Bow-Wow, an influential architectural studio in Japan. With an impressive academic background, including degrees from Japan Women's University and the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kaijima brings a wealth of knowledge to her role as a Professor of Architectural Behaviorology at ETH Zurich. She has also shared her expertise with esteemed institutions such as Harvard, Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Rice University, Delft University of Technology, and Columbia University.
In collaboration with Yoshiharu Tsukamoto, Kaijima has contributed to remarkable architectural projects and research, establishing Atelier Bow-Wow's reputation for innovation. Notable works include Momonoura Village, the Machiya Houses, and House & Atelier. Kaijima's impact extends beyond her architectural endeavors, as she was the curator of the Japanese Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia and was awarded the prestigious Wolf Prize Laureate in Architecture in 2022.
During the lecture, entitled "Architectural Behaviorology," Kaijima will share the valuable insights she has gained from her involvement in over 150 architectural projects. This thought-provoking session promises to explore the intersection of architectural practice and visionary design. Following the lecture, there will be a moderated Q&A session, providing an opportunity for further exploration and discussion.
Before the lecture, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, White Whale Bookstore will be hosting a book sale and signing in the museum café. This family-owned bookstore, located in Bloomfield, will have copies of Atelier Bow-Wow's recent books available for purchase and signing. Admission to the lecture and book signing is free of charge, making this event accessible to all architecture enthusiasts.
