( English will follow) Nous, KotoAn Wagashi, allons tenir notre atelier de septembre pour faire vos propres Nerikiri à l'épicerie spécialité japonaise à Westmount, chez Miyamoto. ==================================================================== We, KotoAn Wagashi, are going to host our September workshop to make your own Nerikiri at Miyamoto, a Japanese specialty grocery in Westmount. Nerikiri is a kind of Japanese sweets originally eaten during Japanese tea ceremony. Their motifs beautifully reflect seasonal changes. In our workshop, we are going to make Nerikiri of middle of autumn motifs. O ur pâtissier Misao is very happy to offer the followings to you: 1) Introduction of Wagashi (Japanese sweets), particularly Nerikiri: You will learn history, ingredients and production process etc. of Wagashi and Nerikiri. 2) Making your own 2 kinds of Nerikiri (2 pcs each - total 4 pcs): You will make Neirikiri using the special tools and the doughs prepared by Misao. You will make the first piece with guide in detail of Misao, and the second piece more by yourself. You will learn different technics by making 2 motifs. We plan to make Kiku (chrysantheme) and Tombo (dragonfly) . See attached photos. The flower of kiku is made of many sharp petals and has distincitve aroma. In Japan special kiku flower is the imperial crest. Red dragonfly ( meadowhawks or darters ) flying in harvest season's rice field at sunset is a very nostalgic scenary for many Japanese reminding their hometown or country side. 3) Tasting the Nerikiri: Freshly brewed green tea will be served for tasting Nerikiri. Some Neirikiri with different flavours and different motifs will be shared. We will talk about socio-cultural aspects of Wagashi and tea. We are really happy to offer this opportunity to share Japanese cultures and feel the atmosphere of the middle of autumn in Japan with you!!!! *** Nerikiri is a vegan, gluten free and fat free food. Join MISC and Sutherland House Books for a talk by J.D.M. Stewart on his new book, The Prime Ministers: Canada’s Leaders and the Nation They Shaped, on Monday, September 22nd, 2025, 4 p.m. at the Faculty Club, 3450 McTavish St. Abstract of book: After a surprising conversation with young Canadians who didn’t recognize the name Lester B.Pearson – Nobel Peace Prize winner and Canada’s fourteenth prime minister — author J.D.M. Stewart set out to bring the country’s history to a new generation. The result is The Prime Ministers, a lively, accessible chronicle of Canada’s leaders, from Sir John A. Macdonald in 1867 to Mark Carney in 2025. With engaging prose and fresh insights, Stewart captures the defining moments of each prime minister’s time in office, revealing how they managed relationships with Indigenous peoples, the environment, American presidents, and international powers. He also explores how their reputations have evolved – who has been forgotten, who remains controversial, and who has become a lasting part of Canada’s cultural fabric. The Prime Ministers is a necessary and important book, intended both for newcomers to Canadian history and those who have loved it for a long time. The talk will be followed by a Q&A and reception. There will be limited copies available for purchase after the lecture. This event is free and open to the public. Reserve your tickets via Eventbrite. To learn more about the book, visit the Southerland House website. For more information about MISC and our events, please visit the MISC website . J.D.M. Stewart is a writer, historian, and one of the country’s foremost experts on Canadian prime ministers. A McGill graduate from The Faculty of Arts in 1992 and the Faculty of Education in 1994, his commentary now regularly appears in the Globe & Mail, The Hub, and the Literary Review of Canada. His previous book, Being Prime Minister , was a Hill Times Top 100 pick. He has also inspired a generation of students during his thirty-year career teaching history to high school students in Toronto, Montreal, and Panama City. He lives in Toronto. Safe Dating: It is crucial to be cautious when setting up in-person dates or meetings. 1. Don't set up dates too quickly It's normal to chat and have some back and forth before deciding if a date is in the cards. If the person wants to meet you immediately that is a RED FLAG. 2. Meet up in a public place for the first time It's a wise decision to choose a busy public location for your first date. Meet at a pub, coffee shop, restaurant, and/or busy park. This allows a secure setting for both of you. 3. Always arrange your transportation for the initial date Always meet your date in a public place. Never, ever let them pick you up or drop you off on your first few dates. Even if they offer to pick you up or drop you off, say "no thanks" until you trust them! Remember the old saying stranger DANGER. 4. Tell someone you trust that you have a date Never go on a date/meet-up without telling someone. This should always be your no. 1 safety rule when meeting people for the first time. Let a friend or family member know that they should expect to hear from you at a certain time. You can also let them know where you're going on the date. It’s also a smart idea to have a ‘safe word’ or ‘safe phrase’, to use, just in case you need to make a quick exit. 5. Think before exchanging numbers Do not forget that you are under no need to share phone numbers if you feel uncomfortable. It’s OK to schedule dates and converse only through a safe app until you feel ready to give out your phone number. Always take your time when disclosing contact information since your privacy is crucial. 6. ALWAYS Trust your instincts If you sense any discomfort or uneasy vibes while conversing, or planning a date in person, don't hesitate to leave immediately and exit the situation. Your well-being always comes first, and it's perfectly fine to step away if something doesn't feel right. Let your friend or family member know. Information Source: Crazy4Events | eventbrite
