Have you ever heard of the Welsh 3000s? If not, these are the highest 15 mountains in Wales over 3000 feet, spread across three mountain ranges: The Snowdon Massif, The Glyderau, and The Carneddau. On this hike you'll be ticking off 2 of the 5 on the Glyderau range: Glyder Fawr (3284ft) Glyder Fach (3261ft) and the famous cantilever stone (yes, that’s where I’m standing in the photo!) We will start in Ogwen before heading up towards Llyn Idwal. As we start to steepen we will pick up the infamous 'Devils Kitchen' before heading up on to the Glyderau. When you get up there, it really does feel like walking on another planet. Jagged rock formations, endless views… and this photo? It’s taken from Glyder Fawr, looking out toward Snowdon. This is a Welsh 3000s hike — so you’ll get to tick off two peaks in your Hiking Passport (which I’ll give you on the day) as part of your 3000s journey. Skill and confidence go hand in hand, and by the end of the day, you'll have gained both. Starting with an introduction to maps session over a coffee. We will cover some of the basics, Including: - Understanding map symbols - Map scales and what they mean - How to measure distances on a map - Basic navigation strategies - Discuss the use of phones as a tool for navigation After this, we will go out into the surrounding countryside and put these new skills into practice. The route we take can be adapted for different abilities. Due to the beautiful landscape of Betws-y-Coed there will be a bit of hill walking involved. However, we will be going at a steady pace and stopping lots to get the best opportunity to learn the navigation skills that we want. What do I need to bring? A rucksack Warm layers (and a spare in your bag) Waterproof top and bottom Boots Gloves and a warm hat Minimum 1 litre of water, and/or hot drink in a flask for cold days. Food - A packed lunch and snacks Suncream if you are feeling optimistic A head torch (We may be finishing after sunset, depending on the time of year) Any Medication you may need. At a basic level, the course outlines the Laws of the Game and how they should be applied to a rugby union match, answers and clarifies general questions about refereeing and discusses the position(s) that referees should take throughout the course of a game. Outcomes: At the end of successfully completing a WRU Level 1 Referee Course, applicants will have gained a Level 1 Referee Certificate and will be clear to referee matches at Junior Level, from U12s to U16 Level and Schools Rugby up to U18s. Without the Level 1 Referee, a person cannot referee a match. Engage Cymru, NAEN, the National Arts and Education Network for Wales, and CASW, Contemporary Arts Society Wales, are collaborating with artists Rhian Hâf and Elly Strigner to create a series of resources focused on contemporary Welsh artists. These resources are designed for pupils aged between 9 and 14, but can also be adapted for younger pupils. We invite your participation in testing these resources before they are rolled out throughout Wales. The training session will take place from 11am until 3pm.
