Founded in 1987, the Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) is one of the UK's largest and longest-running annual film festivals, held every November for 18 days in various venues in Leeds and West Yorkshire. The festival screens over 250 feature films and short films each year and receives more than 5,000 submissions from over 120 countries and regions. LIFF is dedicated to showcasing and supporting emerging film talent from across the UK, as well as works that may not be widely known at other British film festivals. The Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) program is divided into five sections: Official Selection – New Feature Films; Cinema Versa; Fanomeon; LIFF SHORTS; and LIFF Spotlights. LIFF features two feature film competitions – one in the Official Films section and one in the Fantasy section – and seven short film competitions: the Louis Le Prince International Short Film Competition; the World Animation Competition; the British Short Film Competition and the Yorkshire Short Film Competition; the Leeds Queer Short Film Competition; the Leeds Dance Film Competition; and the Leeds Music Video Competition. The 40th Leeds International Film Festival will be held from October 29 to November 15, 2026.
