In this this first masterclass of two, we will explore the importance of nature to the built environment. We’ll discuss the crisis in nature, and our reliance on natural systems not only for materials, but also for human and economic prosperity. We’ll also look at the drivers for reporting on nature and what nature-disclosure is.
This session is part one of a two-part series. In our second masterclass we’ll look at the practicalities of how to effectively disclose business impacts on nature through frameworks such as TNFD. That masterclass is available

In this masterclass we’ll cover:
Why does nature matter: introduction to the ideas of natural capital and ecosystem services
The drivers: top down and bottom up, covering existing and emerging regulation
Reframing our interaction with nature: an introduction to the terminology and ideas behind nature-related strategy and disclosure, including exploration of new ways to view our interface with the natural world
What is nature disclosure? An introduction to the concept of disclosure itself and how this aligns with strategy setting and action by organisations
Ways of measuring impact, dependency, risk and opportunity: an introduction to the available metrics for measuring nature-related interface which can be targeted within strategy and disclosed within reporting
Who’s it for?
This masterclass is for business leaders and ESG professionals across the built environment and finance seeking to better understand their businesses impact on nature, and what’s involved in nature disclosure.
No prior experience of nature-disclosure is required.

Walking among the Egyptian mummies, I came across the glass reflection of the Rosetta Stone. Under the cold stone folds of the Parthenon sculptures, there are always tourists looking up and frozen into silhouettes. The display cabinets are more crowded than the exhibits. In the cracks of the celadon in the East Asian Hall, I caught a glimpse of my own hazy reflection - like those wandering cultural relics, with no idea when they will return.

The Buckingham Palace Changing of the Guard ceremony is a symbolic royal cultural event in London. You should occupy a favorable position in advance. At the appointed time, the guards, wearing red uniforms and bearskin hats, enter the venue to the sound of the military band &quot;God Save the King&quot;. The old and new guards take over their posts. The scene is very shocking. A large number of tourists gather outside the iron gate, vying to witness the changing of the guard ceremony of the royal guard.

Night view

I was shivering in the cold and queued for 40 minutes. I spent all the money I saved by booking tickets online on hot cocoa. My feet were numb when the glass cabin rose to the middle of the air - the Thames River was twisted into a tinfoil ribbon, and Big Ben was as small as a Lego block. The night view was really amazing. When the purple ring lit up, the whole river looked like it was splashed with fluorescent paint. When I landed, my legs were weak. I looked back and saw the purple ring that had collapsed into a rag. I thought: It was worth it, but I will buy a fast ticket next time.

Windsor Castle is a place worth punching in. Walk into the ancient castle to witness the history of the Royal British History. If you are tired, you can sit in the coffee shop in the castle. Aftertaste the luxurious buildings in the palace, wait after 3 pm. Take a few blockbusters when the light is good. You can also see the sentry changing in Windsor Castle.
