One of the oldest cities to come up in Queensland, Rockhampton is a booming city that has a lot to offer the family. It is located near the Fitzroy River and enticed settlers due to its extremely fertile valleys. After gold was first found in Canoona in 1858, the first gold rush in Australia took place, leading to the entry of many migrants and the development of the large port that is known to be the second-largest in the state of Queensland. It is now considered to be Central Queensland's regional centre and is mainly used for agriculture and industrial purposes. It has a very rich culture and history that has inspired many wonderful art galleries and cultural centres.
Tip: The best time to visit this lovely city is during the months of August and September for best weather conditions.
