As a solo traveler, I found that most conveniently located hotels were around 300-500 MYR a night. To save money, I booked this hostel for about 80 MYR per night. I was a bit apprehensive before checking in, as it was a mixed-gender dorm.
Overall, it pleasantly exceeded my expectations. The location is excellent; Mural Street, Durian Dessert Kingdom, Clan Jetties, Chulia Street night market food, the Blue Mansion, the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, and many other attractions are all within walking distance. Plus, there are plenty of great food options nearby.
The hostel boasts a wonderful environment and atmosphere. There are backpackers from all over the world, and everyone is very friendly, welcoming, and respectful of the rules. There's no noise at night, ensuring a good sleep. Each bed has a curtain for privacy, and the space is quite generous, so it doesn't feel cramped or crowded.
The common areas are spacious and comfortable, featuring a co-working space, a lounge area, and free drinking water. You can relax and enjoy the air-conditioning anytime.
What pleasantly surprised me was the hostel's rich variety of organized activities. I joined an 8 AM carpool trip to the famous Penang Hill (entry is free if you hike up, which I did and got completely soaked in sweat; I took the funicular train down for 15 MYR). Also, on my last night before leaving, I happened to catch their Thursday night music party. It was a delight to hear talented travelers from all corners of the world perform songs – English, Chinese, and Cantonese, for example – with an incredibly enthusiastic and supportive audience.
Finally, I'd like to mention a few drawbacks of this hostel: Each bed came with a dark blue blanket that I suspect hadn't been washed, as it carried a strong scent of perfume and body odor. It likely belonged to a previous guest who was heavy on perfume. Luckily, I had brought my own blanket and bedsheet. The bathrooms don't have basins or buckets for handwashing clothes, which is quite inconvenient. While the hostel offers a paid laundry service, they don't provide drying racks or towels. Shoes must be removed before entering the dorm areas, so I recommend bringing your own indoor slippers; otherwise, you'll have to walk in socks or barefoot.
On the positive side, the front desk staff speak Chinese, so communication is seamless, and they are very friendly and welcoming. Overall, I highly recommend this hostel, especially for solo travelers.
I found it quite good and excellent value for money. The accommodation is right across from Chew Jetty, and the street opposite is packed with delicious food, including durian, char kway teow, seafood, and Mixue (an ice cream/drinks chain). It might be due to the heat, but I found all the iced drinks here to be really tasty. Be aware that at night, you might hear motorcyclists speeding, a common occurrence I've also observed in Kuala Lumpur where I am currently. The location is really good and I found it very convenient. A deposit is required, which will be refunded before check-out. The room was also very spacious. Oh, and a heads-up: remember to bring your own travel adapter. There's a convenience store right next door that's also somewhat of a hardware shop, and they sell adapters for about 7.9 MYR each.

The host was friendly to provide midnight check in and room condition was clean and tidy with good air conditioning. And the location was convenient from Queensway mall.
The hotel says it was converted from a historical building, but what I can't understand is why there isn't even a name on the door. I couldn't be sure even after driving around a few times, and it was difficult to stop and confirm. Although there was an email description, I couldn't confirm from the door that this was the place the email said it was.
The walls of the room are a bit thin, and I can feel it when the residents in the isolation room lean against the wall. The Muslim morning prayer begins at 5 a.m. One of the 4 water heaters was broken, and one was turned on to 55 degrees but still seemed to be 37 degrees. I feel that the overall facilities are rough.
The location of the hotel is very good, right next to love lane. It is a good choice for those who like nightlife. It has to be close to other places as well.
The overall experience was not as good as expected.
I highly recommend this hotel! The facilities are all brand new, and the owner is incredibly warm and attentive, patiently answering all our questions. The hotel even provided a variety of complimentary snacks, which my entire family loved. We were all very satisfied with our stay and I've already recommended it to my friends back home. Thanks again! We'll definitely be back to beautiful Penang!
Staying here is very suitable and fits the needs because it is right across from the Island Penang Hospital. Breakfast is quite delicious and unlimited portions. There are sports facilities on the 2nd floor which are quite crowded and restaurants are also close to the location. Unfortunately there is no special price for those who stay more than a week, for some reason.
One night over Penang for a short business trip, check in late but owners helper are helpful. Around the corner of this shared living hostel is some dinner place and open till late around 1030pm. There are some live bar for the entertainment if you are not here for work. Amenities is basic and enough for the stay. Important aspect for me is the Aircon which is functioning and is cold.

JJaycee JjHi . Newly open hotel , i think this one also room for rent monthly . Need to call staff when arriving and got public parking as well. Not a very convenience place but for the price and the cleanliness, is very high recommended. They only provide u soap, so u need to bring your amenities like toothbrush . The towel is for kids size but since I’m travelling w my mom then no issues . Very could and nice place for a short stay. Below at morning time got the nasi lemak viral for rm1, and the green thai tea also very delicious .

GGuest UserWhen we moved in, there was no cleaning and toilet paper. We asked them to clean up, but in the end they just brought paper. The curtain did not close the window completely. There was hair on the bed. The next day at 8:30 in the morning, for some reason, they knocked on our door and brought more toilet paper. Are you kidding me???
GGuest User(+) Location was good, away from the crowds yet walkable distance to main sights. Bus stop for the free CAT buses is just behind. Easy self check in. Room was nice - comfortable beds & pillows, toiletries and towels provided, there's a lift, and the water dispenser on the ground floor was a bonus. Toilet was clean, shower and drainage good.
(-) There were ants in the room. Walls / windows are not sound proof - could hear conversations next door very clearly and rubbish truck comes at 11pm every night so your sleep will be disturbed. Aircon was leaking but thankfully still working. Fan and TV werent working, but not a big issue.
GGuest UserWith the price I paid, I'm totally satisfied with everything, water heater in good condition, air cond running smoothly, 2 toilet paper provided with 2 small bar soap..the room and bathroom is clean, kiblat direction, beddings necessities quite comfortable. I just hope the hotel can add more details on their site, mine don't have windows but no complain since we stay for short time. Iron and drinking water provided at the stairs.

Sshihab25I had an excellent stay at Sembilan Inn by Soft Loft. The room was very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The location is great and easily accessible, making it convenient for getting around. The service was outstanding — the staff were friendly, polite and always ready to help. All amenities were well provided and everything worked perfectly. A fantastic choice for solo travelers and great value for money. Highly recommended!
