Die Heks se Huis

Our experience at Die Heks Se Huis in Sutherland was fantastic. Despite a late change in plans they were very accommodating and welcoming. The accommodation is comfortable and the little themed touches are very cute. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We enjoyed the stay, although it could have been better. We cleaned the shower nozzle and the toilet was leaking softly the whole time. The basin plug was also not working - the rubber was gone. The slept well and overall enjoyed the town. The stargazing and geological sessions of Jurg and Jaco were very good.

Very well stocked self catering unit, decorated nicely, itbis clean and tidy, very close to shops and restaurants. Our hostess Amanda was friendly, warm and welcoming. It is very safe and secure. Although a bit hot, a fan or air cooler would be appreciated, I'm sure the hostess would've provided one had we asked, but we travel with our own.

Stayed for one night Friendly reception and informative info received. Accommodation is suitable for 6 guests Lovely fireplace inside Cons: Very dusty inside as well as cobwebs. NO curtains in the 2 rooms we occupied which makes you wake up with sunrise. Proper showers in both bathrooms would be a plus.

Friendly people and they let you feel at home , very assisting, Die Heks Se Huis is near The Blue Moon restaurant and near the star watch place in town , the unit it self is clean and they allow you to "braai" inside because of the cold..

What a pleasure... from friendly helpful hosts, to a warm fire, beautiful and arty living spaces... and snug beds... There's gas for cooking during loadshedding and a delightful kitchen wood stove that brings back fond memories and warmth to the house. Heks se Huis was just perfect and cannot wait to return. Thank you!

What a gem of a place in the heart of Sutherland. With a warm welcome by management, very helpful and friendly. Our stay was absolutely remarkable, with clean cottages, warm blankets, a nice fire place and best winter weather of all times.

In Sutherland, where the awe inspiring night skies take your breath away, there are many options to stay over. But do your homework. Websites can be very misleading. Whilst kindly agreeing to accommodate 3 of us in a cottage for 2 (we bought our own blow-up mattress etc), we arrived to be met by a rather brusque landlady, who had hardly greeted us before demanding to be paid the balance of our fees (we were there for 2 nights). It was am room with little generosity - no candle, a "starter" fire with 4 logs the rest you needed to buy, a square cm of firelighters, no welcoming touches like soap or rusks, fresh milk, or enough towels given that there were 3 of us, not enough blankets - altogether unwelcoming and cold. The visit to Sutherland is very worthwhile - from the planetarium to the history and the colossal church that has a congregation of just 20 - but find a better place to stay to enjoy the generosity of the Karoo.

The stay was good, but you need to something about the chimney. We made a fire in the fireplace, and the entire cottage was filled with smoke. We opened the windows and door, but as soon as you close them, the cottage filled up with smoke.
