"Very nice hotel, is a new building and facilities, local restaurant next foor, bus stop around the corner, will surely come back, the only other wish i had that the, pillows could be more comfortable, and it has to be down feather filling, its not humid in Almaty and down pillows would an excellent choice, but I'm just spoiled"
"This hotel in Almaty left a deep impression on me; if I visit the city again, I'd definitely choose to stay here.
**Facilities**: I stayed in two different room types. Some floors have been recently renovated (as of summer 2025, renovations seem to be ongoing). The hygiene in both room types was excellent, so you can stay with peace of mind.
**Environment**: The location is simply unbeatable. The hotel's internal restaurant, as well as nearby attractions, dining options, and transportation, are all incredibly convenient.
**Service**: The front desk staff are exceptionally responsible. They always prioritize the guests' convenience, doing their best to arrange timely check-ins for arrivals and coordinating room changes as smoothly as possible. This truly reflects the service standards and heritage of a well-established hotel.
The only minor drawback is the lack of a swimming pool."
"The hostel is clean and well equipped, but I recommend that they separate long term guests from one night guests. Almost every night, there was someone with a late bus or flight who packed noisily, slammed lockers, or made a lot of noise with plastic bags, disturbing everyone’s sleep. I also suggest offering four bed dorms even at a slightly higher price because they would provide more comfort and better rest.
Because of these issues, I couldn’t sleep well for three out of my seven nights here. The first night was especially unpleasant: at 4 a.m. someone pulled open the curtain of my bed and started arguing with me, claiming I was in their spot. That was really disturbing and made my stay uncomfortable.
Aside from that, the beds and facilities were good. The staff were friendly; only one of them, a woman named Yasmin, spoke English, but she was very kind, helpful, and made things easier for me. The others were Russian and didn’t speak English, but they still tried their best to help.
If you’re Chinese, you’ll find that about 90% of the guests are also Chinese, so you’ll have plenty of people to chat with. The location is very nice, right in front of a lake, which looks beautiful at night. There’s a 24 hour supermarket across the street and a restaurant next door with tasty food. The bathrooms, toilets, and kitchen were acceptable, and there’s a bus stop nearby."
"If price is your only concern, this place might be okay. You can borrow a hairdryer from the front desk. It has a bit of a rustic motel vibe and the soundproofing isn't great, but the location itself isn't bad and it's generally a pretty average place. I'd recommend it for people who aren't too sensitive or picky."
"Great for solo traveller for a few days, has everything you need and just a short walking distance from plenty of parks, malls the centres a bit of a trek but very easy to get cabs from the main street. Very secure, felt safe! Would stay again."
"Fantastic stay! The room was cozy, and the front desk staff were incredibly welcoming and efficient with check-in. Overall, a highly satisfying experience with excellent value for money. Definitely recommend! Plus, their English was great, so communication was a breeze."
"The hotel is spacious, close to the station, and surrounded by beautiful scenery, perfect for a city walk. It's run by Chinese people, so the staff are friendly and the front desk service is excellent. The breakfast is especially generous, with Almaty apples available daily! There are local apples as well as Chinese stir-fries – a mix of flavors! Try the local specialty pancake with jam; it's delicious. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic city views, and the rooms have charging stations that don't require an adapter."
"First, let me review the location. A taxi from the airport costs 56 RMB. The surrounding area is relatively convenient. This is a Chinese-owned B&B, and they remotely control everything from finding your keys and getting upstairs to unlocking the door via WeChat. It was my first time there, and it took a full 25 minutes from getting off the taxi to the room.
As for the room itself, it had two 1.2-meter single beds. The room was quite clean, but the bathroom was small.
I suggest you clean the kettle thoroughly; there are too many water stains.
The above is purely personal opinion and does not represent everyone else's."
"The hotel's location is great, with a large shopping mall right next door that has everything you could possibly need. The room's AC initially didn't blow much warm air, so they sent someone to clean it and even added an electric heater. No chance of getting cold!
Breakfast varied each day over the few days we were there, and it was nice that they had noodles with large chunks of beef!"

Amazing
HHenry2016The advantage is that the room is spacious and clean. The front desk is on the 4th floor.
The disadvantage is that the location is relatively remote, which is not very convenient for people who don't drive. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk from the city center. You can only take the bus. There is nothing around, it's very desolate. Breakfast is not a buffet, but a meal order, a set meal + a drink, there are very few varieties, and you don't feel full. It is not recommended to book here if you come to play by yourself. It is much more convenient to book in the city.
GGuest UserThe location is superb! The guesthouse's breakfast was perfectly suited to my Chinese palate, and compared to lunch and dinner, it was the most enjoyable meal. The room was even cleaner than the pictures! The bedding was incredibly soft, ensuring a wonderful night's sleep. The bathroom was spotless with a great wet/dry separation design. You can really tell how much effort the owner put into the details. The host was incredibly friendly! They sent detailed check-in instructions in advance and proactively recommended local delicacies and routes to avoid the crowds, which truly made the entire experience perfect! Outstanding value for money! It's incredible to find such a comfortable guesthouse at this price point. I'll definitely be back!
GGuest UserIt is located centrally, enabling travellers to have easy assess to connecting public bus services, subways, walking distance to nearby eateries, restaurants, the famous Green Bazaar and the sceneic, spacious park that housed the famous Zenkov Cathedral!
All the staffs were amazing, from the frontline to the housekeeping and managers on duty. They communicated well, speak good English, and were extremely patient and helpful in answering my questions about the hotel facilities, going to certain places, etc.
Although the breakfast food selection is not much, it was still outstanding - the bread were fresh, the coffee selection is excellent, fresh cut fruits, and these were sufficient to fill my appetite during my stay for the breakfast!
I would definitely recommend travellers and visitors to Almaty to consider staying at the Grand Tien Shan hotel, its a ”GRAND” feeling you wouldn't want to miss! Enjoy!
GGuest UserThe hotel is centrally located in Almaty, offering great convenience for exploring the city. There's a bus stop right downstairs, making it very easy to reach all the attractions. The reception is on the 17th floor. The staff were friendly and spoke fluent English, and the check-in process was efficient. The rooms are spacious, bright, and feature modern decor. The cleanliness was also good. Breakfast is served at the rooftop restaurant on the 18th floor, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Almaty city.
However, the air conditioning didn't work well; it was extremely hot. Unfortunately, there's a bar downstairs, and the DJ's loud music went on until late into the night. The thumping bass from the clubbing literally made the whole room vibrate.
11390671****The hotel is located in a villa in a wealthy area. There is no sign. It is low-key. I arrived at night and thought I was mistaken. I woke up the next day and found a different world. It was nice to drink tea, chat and exercise in the yard. The bathroom in the room is not together, which is a little inconvenient, but it eliminates the odor that is easy to produce. The proprietress is amiable and the hygiene is very clean. It feels like home. It is a hotel worth recommending.
GGuest UserBooked this hotel because it was near to the airport, and being only 20 minutes away made for a great stopover between flights.
That said, the hotel itself has plenty to offer. The rooms are nice and clean. We actually had an issue where we had too much hot water which is sort of the opposite problem of what you'd expect. The staff were friendly and helpful. They also had plenty of water coolers around to refill bottles, which is a nice touch not all hotels would offer. We didn't use the pool, but we saw that it was large and plenty of people were using it. Breakfast was simple, but did enough to cover all the bases.
All in all, would recommend a stay here. Especially if you're looking for somewhere near the airport to crash.
AAnonymous UserThe hotel boasts a central location, making it extremely convenient for getting around. Right outside, there's a large supermarket at the gas station, which is very handy. While the rooms and facilities are a bit dated, they are immaculately clean. Downstairs, you'll find plenty of comfortable lounge areas, and the staff were also incredibly friendly and welcoming.
KKevin-SchmidtThis place was all right, but definitely missing some key things. Pros: close to everything with a CU and mini market around the corner. Scandalista bar and restaurant next door makes awesome cocktails (food was okay as well).
Cons: TV didn't seem to work (took me about 20 minutes to make it functional). Toilet stopped flushing at some point, so I went to call the front desk, only to discover that the room phone didn't work 😂. Housekeeping ”cleaned” the room, but only cleaned the toilet after a special request.
Overall, if you're on a tight budget, I think the room was fine for the money, but if you're willing/able to spend a bit more, I'd recommend going somewhere else for a stay in Almaty.
AAnonymous Userit is located close to main sightseeing places and you can walk to them. it is on the second floor, North American ways, and then you need carry up your heavy bag at the outside stairs because there are no elevator. they pass you washed bed sheets and a towel. I didn't see any cleaning women. maybe the young guy at the reception only keep the hostel tidy, which doesn't seem enough.
3320843****I chose to stay at this hotel for my trip. Overall, the location was good, the front desk service was generally satisfactory, and the facilities were quite new. However, the rooms with windows that couldn't be opened had a strong smell of renovation, and running the air conditioner with the air circulation mode caused headaches. The rooms were clean and tidy, with no unpleasant odors or cigarette smoke. Accommodation in the area is generally on the expensive side.
