This hotel has 77 rooms, two outdoor swimming pools for adults and one for children, a Satsanga spa with a heated indoor pool, the “Inevitável” restaurant serving regional cuisine and the “Dressage” bar. For more intimate occasions, it also has a fully restored traditional olive oil mill with a typical wood-fired oven, and an enoteca, where the hotel frequently organises tastings of regional wines and olive oils. Inspired by the history of the area, this charming hotel in the Alentejo is dedicated to equestrian themes. Home to the Lusitano thoroughbred horse, the Alter Stud Farm was created in 1748 by King João V and is considered to be the oldest in the world to operate uninterruptedly on the same site. Interesting resort in a remote area of Portugal. Famous Horse breeding program and stables are a speciality. The hotel is located on the same site. Also have a falcon hunting and breeding program. Rooms are comfortable. Restaurant good. Large outdoor pool, but not heated warm enough to use in cool weather. We were there in May and the western house martins were nesting with circular mud nests, under the eaves of the buildings in large numbers. In the daylight they were constantly flying. A very interesting sight.

Vila Galé Collection Alter Real is a charming hotel located at the Royal Stud Farm (1748) The recently restored hotel offers comfortable 77 rooms and equestrian tourism. The hotel has a library & several lounges, an outdoor pool, gym & spa, and a large indoor pool with sauna, jacuzzi & Turkish bath. Free parking. Furnishings and decoration provide a very nice atmosphere. Service is efficient and friendly. We came for one night and stayed four days. Our spacious room had desk & chair, air-conditioning, table & chairs, fridge & TV, a good twin bed, and a wardrobe with safe. No coffee & tea facility, Window can be opened but don’t have mosquito screens. We had a nice bathroom with washbasin, toilet & shower. All was very clean. Several evenings we went for dinner. The food was well presented and tasty. One evening we had a buffet dinner, which was very good. A good breakfast is served: eggs made to order, cold cuts & cheeses, bread & rolls, cereals & fruits, milk & yoghurts, juices & preserves, croissants & pastries, tea & coffee. Hotel Vila Galé Collection Alter Real is a charming and comfortable hotel, and we had a pleasant stay. Highly recommended.

Our recent stay at Vila Galé Collection Alter Real was really remarkable, enjoying the stunning surround nature and excellent hospitality. The hotel's estate, with its breathtaking surroundings, horses grazing, and great indoor and outdoor pool areas, provided a perfect setting for a few days to relax. We enjoyed a fascinating tour of the horse farm and falconry, with a passionate falconer who’s passion made the experience truly special. The visit to the olive oil factory was enlightening, along a great conversation with the knowledgeable hotel manager who further surprised us with a very warm attention and surprise cake for our son’s birthday, making us feel thoroughly cared for. We left Vila Galé Collection Alter Real delighted and look forward to returning. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a tranquil escape with a luxurious twist.

We had booked a two-day stay in “Alter do Chão” at the hotel “Vila Galé de Alter do Chão and stayed in the Solar of the hotel. Both the main building and the Solar have an outdoor swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers. The room was very clean and spacious, the beds were comfortable, and we were not bothered by noise from the people at the pool. The breakfast was buffet style and there was more than enough choice, something for everyone. We had booked half board and in the evening this was also in buffet form, for people who want it differently, they can also eat á la carte, which of course can take a little longer. The reception is a bit on the slow side, but all in all not too bad, the staff is super friendly, the only downside is the road from the reception to the Solar, which has no pavement and is very uneven. Result with the high temperature, a lot of dust is stirred up, which can be a problem if you have to walk to the restaurant, and certainly when it rains (5 minutes on foot), there is also more than enough parking space at the solar. This hotel is certainly worth recommending, it has horses and a allot of birds of prey with museum.

Great location amidst very scenic countryside surrounds, in a remote Lusitano horse stud with 400 horses. Some rooms are really great, we unfortunately had a noisy one overlooking the restaurant and pool, with an overpowering sewerage smell from our toilet. We reported it but they couldn't fix it. They do daily tours of the stud farm and falconry centre, very interesting, but don't often accommodate non-Portuguese speaking visitors. Even though our tour leader speaks English, she firmly told us that on that day it was only in Portuguese and then proceeded to ignore us, which made us feel quite unwelcome. In other encounters we definitely got the feeling that the resort is aimed at Portuguese speakers and that foreigners are 'tolerated'. Excellent dinner buffet on weekends. Service levels could do with a bit of improvement.

The hotel overall is pleasant with good facilities. Sevice is something that definitelty needs improvement, waited for ever to be serviced at bar area. Had to wait in line for breakfast, as tables were not clean. In conclusion slow unprofessional service, something not to be expected at a higher end Vila Galé Hotel. Rooms are in two seperate locations, being the one further from the main building unpleasant for those less open minded. As you have to walk through gravel and quite dark areas at night. Hotel has a good country feeling but needs improvement if it wants to excel.
