My family and I have regularly been visiting the restaurant in Van de Valk in Spier for years. The ambiance in the restaurant is always pleasant and professional. Unfortunately, cost cutting and rapidly rising menu prices has meant you now get a much worse meal today compared with a few years sgo. I now consider the meal prices expensive. In the past, you would receive a complimentary small salad and the french fries were generously served in “puntjes”. During our most recent meal, the french fries were served in a very small bowl and were soggy, clearly having sat for some time in the kitchen waiting for customer. The cod was not hot when served and looked rather anemic with no accompanying sauce. The sliptong served were extremely small, leaving the customer still hungry. The accompanying vegetables served were an unrecognizable curry blend, again in a tiny bowl. In the past, two separate bowls of vegatables were served to cater for individual taste. In summary, our visits to Van de Valk in Spier will become much less frequent in future and we’ll be searching for better price/quality alternatives in the area for future family events.

Overall I’d give it a 4/5. I had a family room which was big, clean, and bright. The tv was massive, the bathroom was new and the view was decent considering the motorway is moments down the road. The location is good and the staff are competent and friendly. The general clientele seems to be an average age of 65 so it’s quite around the pool and gym.

What an excellent hotel, totally surprised, as it was away from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, about 2 hours North. Sitting on the back of a country part with great walks. Rooms were outstanding. Food was exceptional. Gym was good, as was the Sauna. A hotel I will return to for sure, staff were excellent. A review with no complaints.

We stayed here for two nights. Good time spent. Spacious room, with balcony, but actually without a view (look at the roof of the pool). The location is remarkably beautiful for a Van der Valkk hotel. Although it is located near the A28, it borders directly adjacent to the Dwingelderveld nature reserve. You can take some beautiful walks from the hotel without having to take the car. A negative point is the acoustics at the reception and in the restaurant. If it's a bit full, you can't understand a word of what is being said. A very friendly waitress suggested that we enjoy dinner in the lounge because of the noise. This was a golden tip.

Echt een van de Valk zoals ie moet zijn! Heerlijk gegeten, de vrienden van ons komen jaarlijks hier en fietsen dan in hier in de prachtige natuur. Natuurlijk de honden mee en ook daar wordt rekening mee gehouden, zolang ze zich gedragen kan er veel en dat is fijn. Wij komen hier geregeld om er te wandelen en doen dan even deze van de Valk aan, puur omdat het goed is en er een mooie constante kwaliteit is en dat vinden we belangrijk. Ook al zitten we de hele middag te kletsen, is het nog geen punt en blijft het personeel vriendelijk en attent. We komen er graag terug.

We komen al jaren af en toe een hapje eten hier…en het is typisch VdValk zoals het zou moeten….ondanks de drukte zoekt en vind men altijd een tafeltje….het eten is altijd prima en de porties zijn nog altijd royaal. Natuurlijk geen culinaire hoogstandjes…maar continue op een prima niveau zonder ooit de plank mis te slaan…het is een knappe prestatie en we komen hier nog vele malen terug.

Heel goed hotel met mooie, ruime kamers. Uitgebreid ontbijt waarbij je ook op het terras kan zitten. Zowel 's middags als 's avonds in het restaurant gegeten: mooie porties en heel lekker. Vriendelijk personeel. Hotel is goed gelegen om fietstochten te doen.

Dit is een fantastisch hotel met fantastisch personeel. Wij komen hier al heel wat jaren achter elkaar en het voelt als thuis komen. De locatie is perfect als je van wandelen en fietsen houdt, maar je kunt ook heerlijk shoppen in Emmen of Assen. Het hotel heeft mooie kamers, een heerlijk restaurant met een uitgebreide menukaart en een top zwembad ( met sauna en fitness ruimte). Het personeel is fantastisch. Er zijn elk jaar weer veel dezelfde gezichten; dat is fijn voor ons maar zegt ook iets over de werkgever natuurlijk!
