PSA - FOR ATTENTION OF PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES. Having just concluded a spell working for accommodation with the now 1st Arcadia Beach Car Hire I would like to provide some insight into this experience to assist prospective volunteers and for customers to be aware of. The deal 3 hours work per day 6 days a week was upheld in return of staying in the staff house which is nice enough if not requiring some new furnishings. This comes with use of a car when available which is a nice perk, however you must pay for the fuel contrary to the advert that I responded to. Having started with the positives, I move onto the negative: the now sole owner of the business who you will work with every day. The individual will explain next to nothing of what is required of you, and will then proceed to verbally abuse you if tasks aren’t completed exactly as he wishes. There is no middle ground if you make a ‘mistake’, you will be shouted at. This can be for something as trivial as wiping his whiteboard from right to left instead of left to right. Not kidding. Victims included customers on numerous occasions if they struggle to start the barely roadworthy and largely unsafe cars*. I watched fellow housemates brought to tears by the owner on several occasions. A language barrier only exaggerates the difficulty. Placing this here as an FYI. I would add that magnetic island is beautiful and if you think you can tolerate the ill treatment for the opportunity then give it a try. For customers to read and decide if they would hire from here in good conscience. *whilst I am not a mechanic I truly believe it’s a matter of time before something comes unstuck to cause serious accident with some of the vehicles. At one stage customers came back shook up as the had to get assistance pushing their car up a hill and the handbrake didn’t work after stalling.

Had the very unpleasant experience of encountering the owner of this accomodation. Our group were not staying here and we had not rented a car here either. We had rented a car elsewhere and were trying to park at the beach, across from the accomodation, when the car stalled and took a while to fix itself. The aggressive owner proceeded to storm out of the accomodation, was verbally abusive and shouted remarks about the car and the parking which were not solving the issue with our car. After solving the issue ourselves, one of us went and told the owner, in a kind approach, that his manner was not helpful in that situation and he should try and help people differently in the future. The man proceeded to be intimidating and shouted in one of our faces about not wanting tourists here in cars. Attempted to have a calm conversation with the man which further escalated to him being more verbally aggressive and walking away.

the most seedy hotel I have been to, the boss is always drunk and aggressive, we arrived in a room with holes everywhere, windows that cannot be closed. BUT the worst is that we rented a car, I took videos because it was so memorable, the brakes don't work well, the handbrake was completely destroyed and the clutch pedal completely jammed, what's more we We paid 135 dollars for 24 hours. conclusion, run away, if I could give 0 stars I would

Car rental was really easy and stress free. Ian dropped us back to our hostel after we were finished too. Cars are old and run down but perfect for what you need it for, it made us able to see the island a lot easier than using the public transport!

This is not for the Guest House but for the hire cars available through the guest house. DO NOT hire these open topped jeeps. They were rusted, park brake did not work properly, steering was sloppy, when put fuel in, tank was rusted and came out the other side. Known all over the island for the poor safety, yet so many young women hiring these really unsafe vehicles. They are so old. There is NO WAY they could pass a roadworthy. I don't think they have ever been serviced. We had booked one for 2 days and handed it back less than 24 hours later. Owner knew why we were returning (no refund offered) Plenty of other hire vehicles (with open top) on the island that are safe and also cheaper!!! AVOID Arcadia Beach Car rentals!! If I could have given a ZERO star then I would have.

We booked a 4X4 through Base hostel. Once we arrived, we were shown to our ‘4X4’ which was an orange Skoda family car which had no 4 wheel drive option. We said this to the staff, and were then shown another similar car with no 4WD. We asked to speak with the owner and as we approached him he proceeded to shout ‘what’s the problem now’ in front of other customers and staff. We tried to explain that the vehicle was not as described. Before we could finish, the owner shouted at us, told us to take a refund and leave the premises. We asked for a lift back to our hostel and he made us wait 1 hour. We were in shock and disbelief at how we were treated. Very humiliating for us and the other staff, with one staff member apologising to us for his behaviour.

There is no way these vehicles are roadworthy. When we picked up the car we basically got a demo of how to make the car work when it breaks down. Told the car struggles to go into reverse and others had been told to shake their car if it doesn’t turn on! Staff told us they have to rescue multiple people a week. Avoid at all costs.

Booked a topless car for the day and payed over the phone . Arrived, filled out all the paper work and then went over to the cars to find they were giving us a brown Suzuki with a roof. I said we had booked a topless car which was the only reason we had booked with them and the man just said he wasn’t on the phone so it wasn’t his fault. Not very happy Bcos we could have got a better car for cheaper elsewhere 🤷🏽♀️ also the key was broken and such a pain to lock and unlock

We was recommended this place to hire a car via the hostel and it was the worst decision ive ever made whilst in Australia. The man with longish hair who I assumed was the owner, was extremely rude and arrogant. Even when asking some questions regarding the petrol he replied shouting in an aggressive manor which I totally didn’t appreciate.. after all, it’s just a question and customer service should always be high. After receiving the car, it felt like it was going to fall apart. It had loads of bits missing on the dashboard and also very dirty. It struggled to change gear too. If you’re coming to magnetic island avoid this company.. there’s plenty of car rentals on the island at a similar or lower cost.
