Hotell Karolinen Åre

The owner, Peder, was extremely friendly and helpful as were all his staff, the hotel is small but very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel restaurant is fabulous and worth the relatively high prices, but not realistic to eat there every night; the only other option nearby is an Italian restaurant adjacent to a service station, that doubles as a transport cafe.

The hospitality and cosy comfort provided by the Karolinen hotel at Åre Björnen are second to none. All the staff went out of their way to make me feel at home and orientate me with the extensive downhill and cross-country ski trails in the area. My room had a very comfortable bed and even had its own spa bath and Sauna! The traditional wooden building with its log fires and views over the frozen lake create a particularly homely and comfortable atmosphere. A superb buffet breakfast and afternoon tea were included with my booking. People staying in the cabins around the Karolinen also commended them to me. The local ski company runs a convenient shuttle bus that connects the Karolinen every 30 minutes to the nearest ski trails 5 minutes up a steep hill and to other parts of Åre. I stayed for 8 nights for cross country skiing and loved every minute.

Really lovely hotel in a cosy, authentically old building with fireplaces, beamed ceilings and a wonderful restaurant. Very good breakfast and staff who were extremely professional yet friendly. Fantastic views from the hotel. Nice sauna, hot tub and ice pool. Very comfortable beds and good shower in the bathroom. We stayed there to go cross country skiing in the trails at Åre Björnen - this worked well thanks to the efficient free bus service which runs every 30 mins and takes 5 minutes between hotel and Björnen. We would definitely book again and recommend to others without a doubt!
