Where do we start? We booked through Qantas and were charged the price for suite 2 (the most expensive room). When we arrived, we were given room 4 - which is basically a dungeon without windows. After much back and forth with the owner, we moved to room 5, which at least has a window, but no view. No culinary experience because the restaurant is closed - which was not pointed out prior. The lounge room is locked, so it's not even possible to enjoy the view or the fire place. The owner was very unfriendly and unaccommodating.

Booked two nights thinking we were getting a ‘boutique hotel’. Restaurant not open, no one around to assist - totally deserted. Dealing with the owner was interesting. Was told she was two hours away and could not help, offered for us to leave with a full refund. We agreed to stay as it was around 5pm and we had nowhere else to go. Woke up the next morning to a text asking us to vacate and we had until 12noon and again offering us a refund for the second night. We agreed to leave as it really was not up to a scratch. When following up the offer to refund ($650) was told it was reneged and we could take them to the small claims court. We did get our money back as we put the charge in dispute with our bank for a service we paid for and did not receive. Thank goodness we saved all text and email exchanges. A very poor experience of hospitality. Will never go back or recommend

No restaurant, no service, no view!!!! This was such a terrible experience. I’ve never seen anything like it. Such a lie: culinary retreat!!!! OMG nothing like that. There’s no staff on site to help with anything. Rooms are small, no armchair or any chair in the room. Barely enough space for the bed. Avoid this place. The pictures are a trap.

If you have a special occasion to celebrate, the accommodation, food & service is on point. Such opulence and comfort, beautifully styled in a serene setting. From a view over the sea, with a vineyard out the front and kangaroos grazing nearby to the most comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom products. Would love to come back. Thank you for helping us celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary in style!

We booked through Emirates Skywards Hotels, paying with Emirates Miles. A few days before our stay, we had another lockdown, and George's Boutique Hotel would not allow to rebook at a later time, even though we offered to stay during the week. Rocketmiles (all hotel bookings and payments are managed by Rocketmiles when using Emirates points) were very helpful trying to negotiate. They reached out to the owner of the hotel to request to change the dates on our behalf. However, despite their efforts, our request was not approved by the hotel. Rocketmiles apologised for the outcome. The new owner of George's Boutique Hotels & Culinary Retreat was very rude.

TL;DR: It's a scam. We stayed here for a few nights in mid-June 2022. I gather this business changed hands at some point - which would explain the (earlier) good reviews. When we got there, we found out (but only by trying to organise breakfast) that "the chef had quit" - so no breakfast and no dinner options. Despite this, all the material we received after booking (and paying in advance in full with no refund rule) boasted about the restaurant and culinary experience etc. In the absence of this, you are being heavily scammed - it's an average room in a property with few of the facilities of an actual hotel and an almost impossible to reverse out of parking space. All of this for a premium price that has not been changed to reflect the lack of any 'culinary retreat' services.

Like a few reviews on here booked and paid in full and change of ownership not honouring the booking. Refused to answer emails and still doing so. They would not forward any details - have raised the issue with ACCC and waiting for a response.

I had a voucher with no expiration date and went to phone to make a booking . New owners and they said they will not honor the voucher as from previous owner even though it didn't have an expiry date. They were rude and abrupt and said it was my problem!

Very negative experience as Georges has changed ownership and the new owners would not honour our fully pre paid booking resulting in a significant cost to us and no stay. No response was received from either the new owners or previous owner when we requested clarification of the arrangements made at the time the property was sold for pre paid bookings . We can only assume others would have also lost deposits or full payment as a consequence of the sale. The initial ( only) communication from the new owner was lacking in consumer focus and did not comply with normal expectations for business communication. We would not recommend Georges or stay in the future after this experience .
