It has been some years since I last stayed at this hotel but I want to urge potential travelers with an interest in history to choose it. Most of the reviews here have focused on its advantages, but I want to emphasize its historic significance. This was the home of Madame Lynch, the Irish mistress of the dictator Solano Lopez in the late nineteenth century. Because she was a fallen woman, she could not go out in public. Thus Solano Lopez had a private theater built in her house so that when a touring company went to Asuncion, it had to do two functions, one in the national theater, one in the private theater of the house. Today the dining room of the hotel is that private theater. Paraguay has a romantic history and staying in this hotel will allow visitors to partake of it.
