14-18 Meuse-Argonne

If you want to learn about WWI from an expert and have a relaxing time with great food and company, this is the place you need to be. Maarten and Didi Otte are phenomenal hosts and I can recommend this small hotel highly. My wife and I spent several days at the B+B in June 2025 and it was the highlight of our trip to Flanders and Northern France. The small hotel is extremely comfortable and situated in a quiet town in a beautiful countryside but the past is never far away in this part of the world. Maarten has encyclopedic knowledge of WW1 and we learned a tremendous amount in our day long tour of the area. I strongly advise taking a private tour with him. He can customize the tour on your particular area of interest and we were able to retrace the steps of my great uncle who fought and was wounded in the Montfaucon battlefield in Sept 1918. He took us to a lot of out of the way places that you would never see on a standard tour. Maarten has created an excellent and surprisingly extensive museum that will add to your knowledge of the conflict. Didi is a gracious host and will make you feel right at home. Her home cooked meals, both dinner and breakfast, were delicious and a real treat. My wife felt she should write a cookbook but until that is published, you will have to make a visit to the 14-18 Meuse-Argonne to experience her cooking...

I have just returned from a super 4 days exploring the First World War battlefields in the Argonne, basing myself at 14-18 Meuse Argonne in Montfaucon. I was very well looked after by Didi - in particular the freshly cooked evening meals were lovely. Great value.

This is a wonderful B&B in the Meuse-Argonne area run by Didi and Maarten Otte. They are both wonderful hosts and speak multiple languages to welcome all their guests. The B&B offers breakfast and dinner and Didi is an excellent chef. Maarten also does battlefield tours and my son and I spent an excellent day touring WW1 battlefields and trenches. The B&B has attached a small museum on the Meuse-Argonne battle. Overall we had a lovely visit and recommend a stay at the 14-18 Meuse-Argonne B&B.

A simple, no-frills, B&B, but an excellent place to stay. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Didi and Maarten are excellent hosts, and we were made to feel at home straightaway. We took advantage of their very reasonable "table d'hotes", and breakfast was nice too. A great location, with just a short walk up to the American Monument. Ours was only a short stay, and we didn't have chance to look around the museum, but everything in the building has a sense of history. For those who don't speak much French, there is no problem here. Thoroughly recommended.

I picked this place simply for the proximity to many American WWI battlefield historical sites, and didn’t know what to expect otherwise. I was blown away by the service, fantastic meals, and charm of this location. Didi and Maarten were extremely welcoming and the attached museum is worth the visit. Maarten also offers battlefield walks/tours but my schedule did not allow for the time. I will certainly be back!
