Property Description
Enjoy your getaway in a peaceful setting in this unique cabin built in 1840 with built addition, walk-around porch and deck. WiFi!! 3 streams surround the property with multiple walkway bridges to access the ample yard. Natural fire-pit with everything you need to enjoy a cozy fire (firewood provided). 4 bedrooms with sleeping space for at least 4 people (Queen bed, bunk beds, 3 futons, full cot). 2 full bathrooms, plus an exercise/yoga/meditation room stocked with free-weights, fitness dvds, mini fridge, and essential oils.
Only a 5 mile drive off the interstate, and nestled between Staunton and Harrisonburg: only 7 miles to Historic Downtown Staunton or about 15 miles to Harrisonburg (home of JMU). Massanutten Resort is only another 10 miles further from Harrisonburg (25 min drive).
Only 500 yards/0.3 mile walk to the access point for the Middle River for fishing, swimming, tubing or just sightseeing. A few houses are around but you still have privacy due to a big yard and trees surrounding the cabin. The small country road is in front of the cabin, but it is not very busy at all and there is a line of small trees to give shade and privacy to sit on the front porch and enjoy the sounds of nature, birds singing and the bubbling brooks in the back yard.
The space: Enjoy your stay in this peaceful setting. Sit on the front covered porch and listen to the symphony of nature, birds singing and the rain falling on the metal roof. Relax on the back deck overlooking the yard. The sounds of three bubbling brooks flowing from natural springs flow through various parts of the ample yard into the main stream at the back of the property. If you like, you can walk down to the stream and put your feet in, but it can be very chilly certain times of the year! Keep an eye out for the resident Bald Eagle that lives around the area. And in the early hours of dawn and late sunset you may see the friendly visiting deer in the back yard (or sometimes the front!). This cabin is my favorite place to be, whenever I am there I just feel calm and happy. It has all the charm of a rustic cabin in the country but also combined with all the necessities and not too far away from town (4 miles). Unplug your phone and enjoy the peace and comfort of nature surrounding you.
Other things to note: 3 level cabin: Main Level (Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Area): Fully stocked kitchen featuring a big island with 4 stools surrounding, plus a small table in the corner with 2 chairs for another eating area. >Kitchen has a Fridge/freezer, microwave, full stove/oven, toaster, and a Keurig coffee machine fully stocked with k-pods, sugar, sugar substitute, creamer. Propane BBQ grill on the deck (all cooking utensils to for the grills are hanging on the propane bbq grill side panel).
Living room has a small couch, two other cushy seating spots, plus two comfy fold out butterfly chairs perfect for TV watching, TV with a Blu-ray player (large array of DVDs and Blu-ray’s on the shelves), Atari Gold with 120 built in games, 50 in 1 game console with 50 built in games, PAC-Man joystick game, Nintendo DS with a variety of 64 game cartridges, TV with antenna broadcast channels: ABC, CBS, NBC, ION, CW, TrueCrime, Grit, Circle, and a local 24 hour Weather Channel).
Selection of board games, card games, jigsaw puzzles, children books and toys. A retro vinyl record player with variety of vinyl records. This stereo unit also has a radio, cd player, and blutooth capability.
A propane fireplace with remote control (however, the propane is turned off in the summer) and a full dining table with 4 chairs plus a long bench for seating. Back door to the upper deck and wraparound porch.
Upper Level (2 "mini" bedrooms, nook area with Serta-Sleeper twin bed/couch, Full Bathroom, Main Bedroom with Queen & a Serta-Sleeper twin bed/couch): The upstairs 2 "mini" bedrooms are unique polygon shaped rooms, one with twin sized bunk beds and the other with a cot (smaller than a twin bed but big enough for a 5.5 person, I have slept on this cot and it is quite comfy, but if you are very tall, this may not be the best room choice for you). These rooms are small but there is still plenty of room for your bags and provided are luggage racks. Upstairs nook area has a Serta Sleeper Pull-down couch. This is the perfect spot to read a book with ample lighting overhead, or use as a sleeping area: laying down the back cushion it becomes a twin size bed. Upstairs Full Bathroom has a sink, shower/bathtub, toilet, and has a hair dryer in the cabinet below. Heated overhead fan if it gets cold. Upstairs Main Bedroom has Queen Size Bed and another Serta Sleeper Pull-down couch. With this sleeper couch pulled down, the bedroom door will still shut (I made sure!) But you may have to pull the couch out from the wall slightly in order for it to lay down fully. Its very light and placed on furniture movers so its very easy to move.
Walkout Basement (Full Bathroom, Laundry Room, Combo Workout/Yoga/Meditation/Bedroom): Basement Full Bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower. Hair dryer in the wall cabinet. Basement Laundry area has a Washer & Dryer, plus a door to go outside into the yard. There are a stack of lawn chairs you can use for relaxing around the fire-pit, or taking a walk down Bald Rock Road to The Middle River for swimming, tubing, kayaking, fishing...its only a 0.3 mile walk. There are also 4 outdoor blankets, which are provided for use outdoors.
Basement Combo Workout/Yoga/Mediation/Bedroom has another Serta Sleeper Couch that pulls down to a twin bed. This room also has a full length mirror and workout gear: portable DVD player with a variety of workout videos, Yoga Block, Exercise stretch bands, hand weights ranging from 1 - 20 lbs. There is a mini-fridge in this room, along with an ionic salt lamp and an essential oil diffuser with an array of essential oils to enjoy.
Pet friendly: ceramic dog/cat bowls provided, small dog/cat bed, doggie treats, rubber Kong toys, and a cat litter box can be provided on request.

Lovely family vacation in the mountains. Feels secluded but not far from attractions. Wonderful instructions on how everything works. She even left the ingredients to make s’mores at the fire pit. Highly recommended!

Absolutely amazing
Magical cabin sums it up. The location is perfect. The cabin is just the right amount of rustic with modern updates. The host is meticulous to details and has everything you could need. My family absolutely loved it there. Would definitely recommend and will stay again if in the area.

Third time stay.
Once again Rebecca has provided our family an ideal place to stay on during our vacation. This cabin has all of things we need to decompress after a long day in the car. Most of all space in a quite, remote place. No highway sounds, only bird sounds. We also enjoy the authentic, hand hewn wood beams and wood floors. You won't be disappointed when you stay here.

Adorable and rustic. Plenty of beds for my family. Host was nice as well, offering early check in even though we didn't ask.

Family Graduation Celebration
We gathered grandparents, parents, friends, and a graduate to spend quality time together and be close to Bridgewater College. We were only 20 minutes from great food in Staunton and 20 minutes from campus.

Quiet, peaceful stay!
We were a group of 5 looking for somewhere to relax on a long road trip and this was the perfect spot for us. The host was friendly and helpful and the space was just as welcoming. Music and games galore, as well as gorgeous natural spaces

Worth Every Penny
I wanted to get away from the business of Northern Virginia for a few days to clear my mind and simply relax. The cabin stay was exactly what I needed. Not only was Rebecca communicative, the cabin was spacious, rustic, and luxurious. I cannot be more enthusiastic in recommending this property to anyone who wants some time away but doesn’t want to have to “rough it.” I plan on returning this fall with my parents for a few days.
