Hôtel le Chalet

Four of us had half-board for a week, skiing. We arrived and left on the Paris night train and the hotel kindly offered us luggage storage and somewhere to change at both ends of the journey. We were in large third-floor rooms with balcony and view over the river and over one of the spa places, and from it we could usefully see if there was a queue at the gondola station. The ensuite had a bath - very handy after a long day up the mountain. Breakfast in a separate breakfast-room with nice coffee, yoghurt, fresh warm bread, home-made jam, local cheese, charcuterie, organic fruit juice, fruit, croissants (of course), cake, and more that I've forgotten. Breakfast starts at seven, so there's plenty of time to get to the gondola when it opens at eight. But the evening meal from about 7:15 was the highlight - really classy and delicious cuisine that left us astounded. And the hotel went to great trouble to cater for our two pescatarians - they were expecting the usual omelette, but every night they got different types of fabulously prepared fish. You get three courses but you can also have a cheese course and coffee and aperitifs as (reasonably priced) extras. There's a jacuzzi (which we didn't use) and a ski-storage room underneath. It's only 150m from the gondola and the free shuttle-bus and the town square with its famous free open-air hot communal sulphurous foot-baths. And all this at a very reasonable cost - when most hotels in French ski resorts were way out of our price range. I know it sounds too good to be true - but it is!
