Villa Margaridi

We had a wonderful, comfortable stay at this beautiful villa. We were a couple traveling with a 19-month-old toddler, and the 3-bedroom villa was perfect for us. There were two bedrooms upstairs, and then another small bedroom downstairs along with the kitchen and large living room. Because they were partially underground, they stayed cool even when it was hot outside. Super spacious, with beautiful touches, and with its own private garden area. Meanwhile, we also had access to the larger gardens that date back hundreds of years, and got a tour of them as well. Hosts were very helpful with anything we needed, and since we had a car, it was very easy to come and go as we pleased. The center of town is about a 5 minute drive away (there are multiple public garages just outside the walls, so it's easy to park and walk into the historic center). There's also a large city park located just below the property, which was great for a morning run (there's a small trail that connects down from near the top of the driveway). We were there during warm weather and made use of the pool, which was also delightful. Our 19-month-old was made to feel very welcome, and even though it's not a kid-focused place, it was totally toddler friendly. Would happily return someday, and would highly recommend this place to those looking for a quiet place to stay near Guimaraes.

Well I really do not know how to begin to describe this magnificent accommodation and experience. We had a magical 4 night stay at Villa Margaridi. We were only going to stay for 3 nights, but extended an extra night as we were so captivated by the property and the gardens. We were greeted on arrival by the host Jose, who showed us to our accommodation. We had the three bedroom house. The house was spotlessly clean. It has been renovated to make it fully functional and incredibly comfortable, but not affecting the history and personality of the building. A generous welcome pack was provided and fresh bread and croissants delivered to the house every morning. Jose treated us to a personal tour of the baroque gardens and an explanation of the impressive history of Villa Margaridi. It was as if we had stepped back in time. Nothing was too much bother for Jose and his staff. they were very helpful if we needed anything and even arranged taxis, excellent restaurant recommendations and bookings. I do not want to tell any more so to not spoil the wow factor! We will definitely visit again as we found our paradise in Portugal!

We had an exceptional stay in one of the Spa rooms. I really couldn't recommend this Villa highly enough. The gardens are also exceptional. Jose the host, is a delight and couldn't be more helpful. I would love to return. :)

We have stayed at Villa Margaridi during our family trip to Portugal. It is in fact a family owned historical residence having renovated lately and interiors are new. Everything you would look for is available to feel like home. They have an historic garden with various type of trees very well taken care. Location is very peaceful and silent but also very close to town center. Our best gain was having a chance to meet Jose, who was a great host to us and they (together with Hugo) made everything easy and available to us. I would recommend Villa Margaridi for any trip planned to Guimaraes.

Right off a main road in Guimaraes and close to anything you might need, lays this serene picturesque historic building complex. Beautifully renovated, the rooms are spacious, well equipped, quiet and offer stunning views of the gardens and countryside. Jose the manager is extremely friendly and accommodating, making sure everything is alright. We even got fresh bread and croissants delivered to our door every morning! My wife and I stayed there for five nights and loved every minute of it.

Seldom will you meet a host with such passion for his villa and gardens. Jose met us and gave us a tour of the gardens and history behind his estate. Villa Margaridi is really beautiful and our lodge called Roshinos was just perfect. Spotlessly clean with modern bathroom and kitchen yet all in keeping with the age of the building. Jose had left breakfast supplies in the fridge, together with fresh bread and croissants delivered to your door each morning. Villa Margaridi is an oasis of calm in the midst of downtown Guimaraes...... The historic centre is fabulous. Full of charm. I would highly recommend a visit to Guimaraes and a stay at Villa Margaridi an absolute must. Thank you Jose for having us as your guests

This is one of the most delightful place. The place had been in the host family for over 500 years and the original part of the owner's home is 1000 years old. The place where guests stay is newly built in a separate part of the estate. There are multiple units with varying number of rooms for different group sizes. We stayed in a walk up two levels for two nights. Everything I needed were there. No complain. Despite it is of recent vintage, part of the rooms' stone wall is probably quite old. I can see drill holes in some and repaired mortar in others. The surrounding gardens are outstanding and is a recognized Portugal historical garden. The owner Jose is more than glad to give you the history and explanation of the entire place. Jose is more than helpful. A real great person to meet. We even had a wine tasting of the wine from his vineyard. Sipping wine in the afternoon sun facing the exquisite garden is an indescribable experience. Try it and you will not regret it. However, you do need a car because it is 2 km away from city center. If you arrive after dark, you have to be real careful not to miss the turn in

A piece of heaven on earth. An objective review must highlight the one thousand years history, the delightfull historical gardens, the stunning collection of camelias, or the beautifully renovated villas. Each of these alone would be worth the stay but when these are brought together by the finest and kindest of hosts, ready to go out of his way to make you feel at home, then i’m afraid Tripadvisor has not yet created a scale that captures it.

We all absolutely loved our stay at Villa Margaridi!! Where to begin... We travelled as a large group of eight for a two day escape to Guimarares. The owner and host Jose was a delight who went out of his way to make us feel at home, whether it be organising transportation, giving us a free upgrade or providing an impromptu wine tasting opportunity. Jose also took the time to share some of the long proud history of his beautiful home and amazing gardens, it was great to hear such passion from an enthusiast keeping his family traditions alive. I don't tend to leave many reviews, but this hotel is truly special!
