As a party of four spending our New Years in Bali, the Villa had been booked months in advance by one of our traveling companions. On the day of checkin, we were in constant communication with Erik, the on site manager, as to our arrival. After a 40 minute drive through horrendous traffic, we arrived tired but excited. The excitement turned to despair when Erik finally told us the truth- the villa was overbooked and could not accommodate us. He offered an alternative, which he described as larger and more luxurious but in a different area. Back in our car and driver for another 30 minute drive to see the alternative, which happened to be minutes from our starting point for the day. The new villa was larger yes but luxurious not by any means. The closest services in the decidedly low rent neighborhood were a McDonalds and Burger King. Also, when we arrived at the alternative villa, the management was in the process of evicting a family already residing in said villa. Not a happy vibe for the staff, family, nor us. The alternative was not acceptable and at this point, at two in the afternoon, we were left to fend for ourselves to find comparable accommodations for the next four days. Our complaint is if Erik had been honest with us from the beginning of our communications in the morning of our checkin instead of stringing us along until two in the afternoon, we would have had better time to remedy the problem. What we ended up with was a mad dash in hot humid traffic running down less than pleasant choices in a crowded city during holiday congestion. Tiga Sumatra did not live up to their claim of luxurious accommodations by putting guests through this unacceptable situation. Please don’t apologies, just fix it. This is the definition of luxury.
