It really pains me to write this review but here goes. First it must be said that Yuda and the local staff at the villa are lovely and helpful so they cannot be faulted. The second thing that must be said is the only reasons I am disappointed are due to the expectations we had because of the price (you’d be thrilled with this place if you were paying for something quite basic), and how offsite management is dealing with a partial refund request due to a major electrical issue.
We booked a 3br villa very last minute. We paid about $1900AUD for 8 nights. This was advertised as a ~50% discount from around $4000aud so we were expecting a villa worth around $3-4k AUD per week. Well… it sure isn’t. Reviews were mostly great but that started to make sense when I saw people were paying $60aud per night. If you were paying up to $100 aud per night this place is a palace! Absolutely 5 stars. But for $250/ night (discounted from $500)… not so much. So our expectations were disappointed. (I’ll try to attach pics).
The internet was not working at all. They came to fix it and it improved a bit, but not enough to do a video conference call for work, for example.
Then we quickly realised that every time we turned the light on in one of the bathrooms, the power tripped out in that bedroom and bathroom including lights, PowerPoints and air con. They came to look at that as well, and as I suspected it was just the safety switch. But it happens every time, and if the kids use the bathroom during the night we can’t always be going to fiddle with the switchboard to get the lights and air con working again. So that’s a bedroom / bathroom not really useable at night.
I put through a request through the booking platform to modify our booking for early check out because of the electrical issue, and because of the crazy price we had paid for what it was. The request was rejected by the hotel via the booking platform. So I reached out directly and have spent several days trying to negotiate a 50% refund of the booking despite the fact we left after 2 days. Hotel management (above Yuda’s head) are not budging. Not good. And I'm not at all impressed with Trip.com just not assisting at all despite hosting clearly misleading statements of the price bracket / value of the villa.
Pros:
- the beds are clean and comfortable
- Staff are great
- Pool is lovely
- Quiet and private in the complex and it feels safe.
- Again - if you were paying for a basic villa setup you’d be thrilled!
Cons:
- no mosquito bombing at night and we had to ask for mosquito coils then bought some for the second night as they weren’t supplied.
- One single, weak, quite dirty fan for the entire outdoor living part of the villa
- Woeful internet
- Safety switch / electrical issue
- One couch for a 3br villa.
- The air con motors are in the bathrooms and pump out stifling heat (and noise) into the bathrooms
- Wardrobe / drawers / hanging space not suitable for a couple of people to share each room
- We didn’t try the breakfast because I was a bit nervous about it (but I accept I am overly paranoid because of some health issues - all the reviews say it’s fine)
- Bathroom supplies are very basic - shampoo, conditioner , shower gel. No face washers. No bottled water.
- As I’ve said, these are all things you’d absolutely expect from a basic villa (except perhaps the electrical thing).
I really want to support local businesses so I absolutely encourage you to book this IF the price is right and basic is what you’re looking (and paying) for.
