Enchanting. A new surprise around every corner of this garden. The rooms themselves open onto the outside with latticed lofts, terraces, reading porches, and bathing areas. I've never seen such attention to detail in a hotel, down to some small bright painting drawing your attention to a far corner of a wall or a low coffee table inlaid in a row of bushes. You can feel good that the people working here have been supported by an affordable hospitality school next door and will be further supported to find good service jobs in the west. All local Balinese, from surrounding villages. I had many warm conversations with them over the week and was blessed to celebrate the New Year with them, jumping into the pool after midnight amid fireworks. The food is excellent. The bar and drink menu is everything you could ask for, not to mention spa, massage, gym, cooking and culture class, tours of Bali, and airport transport. So much more peaceful, charming, and authentic than Cenggu Beach, which was overrun with tourists, high rise hotels, bumper to bumper traffic, and club music when I was there during the holidays. If you want to go to Cenggu, you can get there in 20 or 30 minutes by taxi. But I most often prefered to stay here at KTS Balinese Villa. A great value for a reasonable price, and so inspired and inspiring. I got some good writing done here, so for any artists looking for a retreat, this could be your place. I can't recommend it enough.
