AC Hotel by Marriott Penang

As someone who rarely writes reviews, I simply *have* to vent about this place. The shower stall was unbelievably cramped – a slightly larger or taller man probably wouldn't even fit, and even a slender person couldn't stretch their arms out. To make matters worse, there were no shelves for toiletries like face wash, forcing us to put everything on the floor, which was ridiculous! The toilet flush was incredibly weak; I honestly couldn't even bring myself to use it for 'number two.' When I informed the staff, they simply said, 'that's just how it is,' and that it was 'normal.' Unbelievable. Then there was the breakfast, which was comparable to a budget chain like Home Inn in China – absolutely nothing decent to eat. None of the fruit was sweet, despite this being a tropical region. The windows couldn't be opened, and they only provided canned water that couldn't be taken out of the room, with no bottled mineral water at all. Can you believe this is a Marriott-branded hotel? I've stayed at countless Marriott and Hilton properties for business, and this is hands down the *worst* Marriott I have ever experienced, bar none. I will never go back. The only reason I chose it was its proximity to the airport; otherwise, I wouldn't have put up with this, regardless of any small savings or convenience. Three nights here were truly exasperating. Oh, and during check-in, the front desk staff kept imitating how Chinese people speak, repeating 'Hao de, hao de.' I couldn't tell if it was sarcastic or meant to be friendly, but either way, I found it inappropriate. All in all, a very poor experience. Not recommended.

Amenities: Just okay, as the room was a bit small. Cleanliness: Pretty good; the room was cleaned daily. Location: The only downside is the lack of shopping malls or decent restaurants in the vicinity. Service: Very good. The bellboy was quite proactive, and the front desk also offered Chinese language service.

The room felt more like a guesthouse, completely lacking basic amenities such as a toothbrush, slippers, and a hairdryer. The layout was also quite poor. Frankly, it doesn't even compare to a budget hotel chain like Hanting in China.

The hotel service was excellent, and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We stayed in a suite at this Marriott-branded apartment hotel. While the space was quite ample, the cleanliness was unfortunately very average. I could distinctly smell an old, musty odor, along with hints of curry and sweat, on the duvet and pillows. Conveniently, there's a large Myrid supermarket less than a ten-minute walk away. Queensbay Mall, Penang's largest shopping center, is also just a 10-minute taxi ride away, featuring an AEON supermarket, a food court, and a wide array of clothing and cosmetic stores.
