Wang's Shadow Puppy Culture Theme Hotel

Amazing dtay, I stayed for 3 nights, very calm and smooth stay. Location is in the middle of the authentic old houses, walkable to nearby night market. Getting in and out is tricky by taxi, better to walk to main road and take a taxi from there and vice versa. Subway is 10-15 mins walk but taxi is always faster. Hotel is clean and proper, reception and staff is helpful .

My first time in China and I could not have chosen a better hotel. All the staff are excellent so friendly and helpful, especially Joselyn who is a star. Her English is excellent and helped me so much. The room was perfect, the bed and pillows so comfortable, great wifi and hot powerful shower with good air con. The location was in a residential Hutong which was amazing yet within easy walking distance to lovely lakes, drum/bell tower area. Metro stations only 15/20 minutes walk and from there you can get anywhere in Beijing ( in 4 days I never used taxi just metro). A welcome surprise is the shadow puppet show which I thoroughly enjoyed and delivered with so much passion and enthusiasm. If you want to stay in a unique Hutong area yet be close to all the attractions you should choose this small friendly excellent value hotel.

Fantastic hotel in the Hutong area and ultra convenient to top attractions and a street full of live music bars and cafes! The shadow puppetry theme went beyond hotel's decor, they actually hold free shows 3 nights a week, followed by a detailed introduction and even workshops for those interested! Very interesting and unique! Particular shout outs to the very warm and helpful staff, including Tom, Xuan Xuan, and Anise. They were most helpful in giving us tips and advice that greatly enhanced our Beijing experience. Kudos to them! Also thank Joycelyn for her help and assistance with the puppetry purchase! Bought a piece that we love!

Great hotel in a fantastic location in the Shichahai area, in a Hutong in Beijing. Despite the cool but confusing name (also known as Shichahai Shadow Performance Hotel on Google Maps!), it is a really friendly place. The staff are all really helpful- Seven speaks fluent English and is great at sorting stuff out; Prince, Lily, Joli and Amy speak English using a great translator phone app, which is fine for basic communication. But best of all (and a surprise to me), is that they have a Shadow Puppet show in the evening at 8pm in the small central theatre shaped atrium. It's free for residents. Don't miss this. It's a dying art, and the hotel has local shadow puppetmaster Mr Wang there every day. I'll definitely be going back the next time I'm in Beijing. Loved it!

Location wise it's great. It's near to most of the iconic place in beijing. The place was clean, spacious and neat, especially the room. The services provided by the staff was top notch. They were so patient with helping me in understanding beijing, where to get certain things, where to eat, helped me order food from the app when I couldn't, help me make reservation to the tourist attraction places, told me where to go. Always treated the staff with very polite and nice smile. Few staff to look for are 二姐，Amy, Tom, lily, and joli. You need whatever help, if they can do it, they will definitely help.

The hotel was good in maintaining the shadow culture with shows every tue, thu, sat. Although it is a non-smoking hotel, my room did have mild cigarette smell. The location is difficult for cars to come in as the road was narrow. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay. The staff was really nice and helped me hold my luggage after I checked out.

I absolutely loved the Shadow Puppetry aspect of this hotel. They do performances every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 8pm. Even though I don't speak Chinese, I really enjoyed the performances and the demonstrations of the history and logistics of the puppets. I also got to paint my own puppets after the show (for an extra fee), which I loved. Really friendly staff and beautiful décor. It would have been nice to have some more natural light in my room and the walk back to the hotel was pretty dark at night and away from the main street, which I would have preferred to avoid as a solo female traveller. However, all of this was made clear when booking the hotel, so they set clear expectations and made it a memorable and comfortable stay. Would recommend!
