Matuka Lodge was a superb place to stay for several reasons. The host Mel was exceptionally warm and welcoming , the rooms were amazing, the location was perfect for exploring this beautiful part of NZ, and the views were stunning. After your day sightseeing you come back to tea and home made fruit cake/cookies sitting on the decking overlooking the duck pond with the mountains as a backdrop. It was so relaxing. We really appreciated the homely but luxurious feel of Matuka Lodge. It was nice and close to the small town of Twizel too where you could find everything you needed including some great places for a meal. Would thoroughly recommend !

Had a really lovely stay here. Beautifully furnished and comfortable rooms with an amazing view. Breakfast was super - great cooked eggs! Most of all, the best service and welcome by Mel and Mark, who were great hosts. Would 100% recommend.

Lovely place to stay. Very quiet and friendly. Host Mel was very communicative and helpful. Great breakfast especially if you like beautifully cooked eggs. Highly recommended. Room well appointed and had everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Other guests were discreet but still interesting to chat with if you wanted to.

It was so a lovely experience to stay here. Mel and Mark are the best host's, and you literally feel like family. Mel makes you feel the mom you never had, and Mark the dad that enjoys Sunday day football. Their property is huge! And they also have doggies running around. There is a big pond filled with ducks and fishes. I highly recommend waking up early enough to catch the sunrise because it just takes you away from your problems. They serve a homemade breakfast and you sit around with people staying in the lodge. Super friendly! We definitely will return and see our "family" again. Thank you M&M!

First class accommodation . Everything was perfect. The view from our room was beautiful. The bed was comfy and the room was immaculate. The use of the lounge with another view along with tea , coffee and snacks including home made cake was a lovely touch. Breakfast was all you wanted and more along with excellent information from Mel and Mark for the days activities and evening dinner in the town.

A beautiful place. Mel was truly the perfect host. She offered excellent advice, made dinner reservations for us, and created an incredibly welcoming atmosphere. Great breakfast, and Mark makes delicious eggs. We would highly recommend Matuka Lodge.

We spent two nights at Matuka Lodge, and we would have loved to be there longer. Our hosts were so welcoming and helpful - they made us feel at home right away. They provided help with dinner reservations, laundry and information about the area. Our room was fabulous - a beautiful private view of the pond, landscaping, ducks and distant mountains. The room was impeccably furnished, clean and with a large well-appointed bathroom. The living area of the house was equally beautiful and relaxing. Breakfast each morning was delicious! Really, the entire experience staying at Matuka Lodge was wonderful.

The lodge itself is very tasteful but comfortable. The residents sitting area is relaxed with a view over the large pond. The room is nicely furnished and the en suite is superb. Mark’s breakfasts were delicious. Mel is an absolutely lovely bubbly lady, I am so glad that I met her. Nothing was too much for her and our room was clean and fresh each day. Mel’s baking skills were an added plus, delicious chocolate chip cookies and wonderful fruit cake. A delightful stay made extra special by such lovely hosts. The ducks were very friendly too! Thank you Mark and Mel!
