Rex Hotel Beppu

Hotel is located in Beppu. Easily accessiable with seaview.

We had a wonderful stay at Rex Hotel Beppu. The hotel was very clean and well maintained, and the overall environment was relaxing and comfortable. The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The ocean view was absolutely beautiful and one of the highlights of our trip. Waking up to the sea every morning was a fantastic experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and the facilities were well kept. The rooftop onsen on the 8th floor was a bit smaller than expected, but it was very well equipped and provided everything we needed. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay and would gladly return in the future. Highly recommended!

Location of the hotel is quite good, just a little off, maybe about 5 mins drive fm the main area of the city where the restaurants and shopping mall is. Hotel has a nice onsen esp the outdoor one. What i didnt like was they only provided 1 pillow and when i requested an additonal pillow on my first night there, the person at the reception say they dont provide. This was a first time experiencing a hotel not agreeing to providing an extra pillow. Slept poorly as a result as I really need 2 pillows to sleep. On the 2nd night, i decided to try again with a different person at the reception. This person agreed immediately, unlike the guy on the first night. That made me think - why was my request rejected the first night?

The REX hotel is beautifully located along the Beppu coastline, which made the stay even more enjoyable. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed in the parking area, and I would like to sincerely thank the staff member who kindly helped carry our luggage to the front desk—his hospitality made a great first impression. Inside the hotel, guests are asked to remove their shoes and wear indoor slippers, which contributed to the overall cleanliness of the property. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, and we were very satisfied with the quality of the meals. However, if I may offer one piece of feedback regarding customer service: during our stay, the battery of our rental car was discharged. When I asked the front desk if the hotel could assist with charging the battery, I was informed that such a service was not available, which I completely understand. However, when I asked if I could call the rental car help desk, there was some hesitation, and I was told that the hotel could not get involved between the rental company and the customer. Since both my phone and my companion’s phone only had data access and could not make calls, I then asked if I could use the hotel’s phone. After some consideration, the staff kindly allowed me to use the front desk phone, and I was able to contact the rental company and resolve the issue. From the perspective of an international traveler, situations like a rental car battery failure can be quite stressful and unfamiliar. I reached out for help because I was unsure how to handle the situation, and it seemed that the staff found it difficult to respond, possibly because it was not covered in their standard service guidelines. As someone who travels to many countries, this was not a common experience, and I believe that a bit more proactive and reassuring guidance from the front desk would have made a significant difference. Overall, I was very satisfied with the hotel facilities. I believe that when guests face unexpected difficulties, a little extra kindness and support from staff can greatly enhance their overall impression of the hotel. Once again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the older gentleman who warmly welcomed us at the parking area. His kindness truly stood out.

Nice view , clean room and good breakfast. Unfortunately, onsen is off during 9pm -3 pm

I definitely will stay away from this hotel. No clue what service is all about.  Due to language barrier we had thought the check out time was like most hotels in Japan which is 11am but for this hotel it is 10am.  At 10am sharp, reception called to say we had to leave. So we packed quickly and vacated room by 10:30. At 10:15 a second call came followed by a third one at 10:25, despite the hotel not being full at all.  In the midst of our rush to finish packing we couldn’t locate the second key card so only returned one to reception.  They immediately went up to the room to search telling us not to leave. My friend went with the luggage to the car and i sat by the main entrance to put my shoes on as the hotel has a no-shoe policy. The receptionist stood by me pestering about the missing key card. Then followed me to the car at which point i couldn’t hold my temper and told her off. She then called the supervisor to speak to us in mandarin instead of English.  At first the supervisor was also very blunt and threatened to call the police, but upon my friend’s explanation, agreed that her staff’s attitude was in question. Finally she told us to pay 1100 yen for the lost key which we agreed.  This simply reflect on the management focusing more on rules and regulations instead of hospitality service.  Although the hotel is pleasant and located right by the sea, I would NEVER return.

Nice hotel with friendly staff and delicious cuisine. The public onsen is also awesome.
