We stayed at the Ecolodge one night before heading out into the jungle for three days, 2 nights with the local guides (********************************************************************) can also highly recommend this tour provider !). Overall the accommodation was fine for the night. The restaurant at the Ecolodge is absolutely adorable and such a nice place to have some drinks and food (minimum amount for paying with a credit card is 80.000 IDR , so I would recommend to bring some cash !). Also we were able to store our bags at the Eco lodge while we were out in the jungle ( per night and bag 10.000IDR including a locker for valuables ,also cash ).

This location is perfect! Stunning and looks onto the river. The rooms are spacious and very comfy, with mosquito nets to over the whole bed. Service at reception was excellent and we were able to keep our luggage there over night for storage while we did an overnight jungle trek. (Highly recommended) I used Izoen, the guide, to help me organize everything needed for an enjoyable hike. Hafiz was also amazing and such a wonderful person to help when I didn’t feel well and took me to the pharmacy nearby. Very convenient, warm people and safe👌 There was just one thing I would have really liked. In the room there is no kettle and coffee/tea cups to make your own coffee and tea in the room. I think this could be a nice addition - since there are such beautiful balconies and porches to sit outside. Also there was no shower gel or hand soap in shower area. But there was a hand soap by the sink.

3.547175, 98.124987 Connected to the village of Bukit Lawang via a monkey bridge over the Sungai Bohorak River, this out-of-centre accommodation prides itself on being eco-friendly. Waste is separated and the hotel side is free of cigarette butts. It is a good start for the not-so-environmentally friendly lifestyle of many Indonesians. The accommodation caters to foreign tourist, offers laundry service, shoe cleaning and massage. It sits on the border between palm oil plantations and the dense, vertically rising jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park. Loggers and palm planters stopped by the river. The Ecolodge is the start of the Rainforest Discovery Path to the former Orangutan feeding ground. This platform is closed, but this is still the best place in Sumatra to see habituated orang-utans. To boost local employment, you will need an unnecessarily local guide for this busy walkable path. In September 2023, we booked room 98. The accommodation is a year-long development with old and new rooms. The older ones are to the left of the monkey bridge and of minimal standard, reasonably clean and maintained Indonesian style. Only a cold shower (if there is water), twin beds and a fan. The mosquito nets are of good quality and the twin sleeps fine. No Wi-Fi in the room. To the right of the monkey bridge are new two-storey rooms and the 2016 Kapal Bambu (meaning Bamboo Ship) restaurant, designed and built by Swiss architect Lukas Zollinger in collaboration with German-Columbian bamboo expert Jörg Stamm and made of natural and sustainable harvested bamboo and clay, which occur in sufficient quantities in the local environment of Bukit Lawang. The high-speed Wi-Fi crashed frequently due to overloading from foreign visitors. The daging lada hitam, "black pepper beef" or "black pepper meat" of stir-fried beef cooked with a flavourful sauce made from black pepper, soy sauce, garlic, onions and other seasonings tasted excellent (Rp60K). Ecolodge offers basic and upmarket accommodation. Recommended.

Just spent 6 days in Bukit Lawang at the Eco Lodge, on a yoga retreat. The rooms at the Eco Lodge were excellent, with a view of the river, and groups of monkeys visiting in the trees nearby. The staff at the lodge were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. We trekked into the jungle after yoga on most days and our guides Idriss and Jampo were amazing. They were thoughtful, friendly and dedicated to ensuring that we had the best experience. The experience was so fantastic, that we will be returning next year!

Such a magical accommodation and wildlife experience! Highly recommend visiting and staying for at least a week - delicious food, gorgeous rooms and great service. The guides were incredible and we were able to see every animal we had on our list.

Rats have been crawling all over my bed during the day. Each day a small item of clothing would disappear either from my bed or from the night stand. In the end I have also lost my earphone. They were only found under the bed a bunch of straws and rat feces. All munched up into pieces. The hotel acknowledged the problem but refuses to compensate. Walking away losing 70£ worth of stuff and It’s just disgusting knowing that rats could have been all over my bed when I was out during the day. Been feeling ill after the first day. Wondering if the rats have anything to do with it. Beside that brilliant location, staff are nice when there is not a problem. Decent food! Love the wooden Canteen!

Very basic rooms without aircon but noisy fan in hot and humid location. Good staff and reasonable priced and quality meals. Unfortunately the hotels across the river and the local people are very noisy noisy till 1 - 2 AM playing loud music and talking, which disturbed our sleep in the hot room even more. They have no respect in this regard for other visitors and although the hotel manager tried his best, he acknowledged that it is and has been a big problem.
