Hôtel de Poé

Welcoming friendly vibe, great beach location. Bungalows are comfortable but very hot. Air con doesn’t cool lower bedroom. Poé is very small and the few shops/restaurants there are not open every day. It is a good idea to bring food with you so you can truly relax.

If we had not had a French speaking bird guide, we would have struggled here. And, the rooms are extremely basic ... a bit too rustic to feel relaxed and comfortable. There is a restaurant right there on-site but the "chef" or the "husband of the chef" is the rudest person we have ever encountered in all our travels over 30+ years. The restaurant is not actually part of the motel property but because it is right there, it is more than just convenient. We did not experience the food, however, because this extremely rude French man started exchanging rude banter with our guide, whom we had asked to join us for dinner, because we had a reservation for two already and he did not know she would be joining us. And, BTW, we were the only people showing up for dinner and the restaurant wasn't even open until 20 minutes after we arrived ... making his nasty comments even more unreasonable. We left. There is a perfectly wonderful Sheraton property down the road, so we went to dinner there. We should have also stayed there for the night. It would have been so, so much better all the way around.

Great location and Eugene at the front desk was so helpful as we had limited French. The unit was great and the restaurant was amazing, we had dinner, the staff were so friendly and helped with the menu choices. We were not disappointed. Recommend this property.

Hotel de Poe is a solid option for families looking for something that is between the campsite and the Sheraton in price. The good thing about Hotel de Poe is that you can self cater with a proper kitchen and a decent area of space by each bungalow, which has two rooms. The night we were there it was a bit noisy with people staying up and drinking but they quieted down by midnight. The hotel is a bit tired and is back from the beach (no pool) but is generally reasonable for the price, and you can't beat Poe for a weekend away.

The property was just as per the website. The only issue was a power cut for a couple of hours in the morning.

An absolutely fabulous 60th birthday meal with my family. Food was great, terrific choice and everything was beautifully cooked. Service was equally good - as were the rum cocktails. Very, highly recommended!!
