Very average. A lovely building and decor, but the food was fairly average and the service pretty poor. When you have a young family and you clearly need service staff with a bit of initiative, it was sad to see that there was precious little in supply. Changing my baby’s nappy I was directed to the floor of the men’s room, as there was no baby changer in there. Food was slow to arrive and even slower to be cleared, and was *very* expensive for what it was. Will not be returning.

The hotel was in need of a facelift, it was tired in a lot of places and we felt given this, it was very overpriced. We didn’t know about the refurbishment when we booked so I see now that is going to happen and will hopefully improve things but it obviously didn’t help our stay. This should have been made clear on the website (which it now is but I don’t know when this was added). We had to change our room as it was up extremely steep stairs (with no handrail on the top section) which we feel were unsafe for our 18 month old son. The room was also very cold. Our new room was extremely hot (without any radiators on) and was hard to cool down so we slept poorly. We were told there wasn’t anything that could be done about the temperature of either room as it was down to radiators and it being an old house. The outside facilities for children were very worn and used (the outside huts) which were disappointing. The pool area was looking run down and was cold, our son’s lips went blue in the pool! We did report this to reception but were told others hadn’t complained. My massage was very poor. The therapist had freezing cold hands, never asked if the pressure was ok and I had to ask several times for it to be firmer as it was more like being stroked! Really disappointing. I was not asked if the massage was ok at the end either (and it was about 10 mins short too). The food choice was pretty limited, the soup, pie and fish of the day were basically the same the 4 nights we were there and no new dishes added. The food was average in taste and fairly expensive. There was only one larger on offer until the last day we were there when they finally got an additional choice in. They had run out of rose wine too. We had to wait a long time to order a drink in the evenings and staff were hard to find. Overall we were very disappointed in our stay and felt a lot more could have been done to improve things, instead it felt like the hotel and staff were just counting down to the refurb!

The most charming, friendly, personal, quirky and thoughtful place I have ever stayed. Gardens are beautiful- huge attention to detail, and not a whiff of the corporate hotel that can be so dry and boring. Even the 'do not disturb' labels for the room doors are handwritten- such joy! And the paintings are wonderful (I usually HATE the art on hotel walls). The pool was delightful (complete with wistful ducks staring at you through the glass windows), the showers powerful, the breakfasts divine. I came without my kids but they would have loved the pool, the ping pong and the pool table. I loved the character of the place and am nervous to hear they are about to have a big refurbishment. However the gloriously friendly, knowledgeable and engaged staff promised that not much will change... The photos in no way do it justice.

From the moment you arrive at Woolley Grange it is a feeling of peace & calm. It's a beautiful old house with lots of character & the grounds are kept so well. This was my second visit & I enjoyed it every bit as much as the first time. After a lovely welcome in reception we were shown to our room which was everything we could have wished for. Spotlessly clean, a large bathroom with nice toiletries & a huge comfy bed. We used the indoor pool twice while we were there & it is warm & well looked after. Breakfast the next morning was first class & all the staff are excellent. I can't recommend this hotel enough & can't wait for my next visit after the closure for refurbishment.

We’ve had amazing time here. The staff have been amazing throughout, kind and patient. The rooms are comfortable and spacious with Bramley products. The food is delicious. They have a number of green spaces to walk through that, with good weather, provides a lovely alternative to the indoor spaces. The area is very quiet which adds to the relaxing environment. We visited during term time, so it may be different in the school holidays. We hope to visit again soon.

We went to Woolley Grange for my son’s 5th Birthday and had the absolute best time. I couldn’t fault a thing. The service was amazing, the food was fantastic ( we had lunch, dinner and Sunday lunch!) and the facilities were great. The pool and spa were so clean and well maintained. The bears den was perfect for the kids (ages 5, 3, 1) and they loved it there. All of the staff were wonderful with the kids and made everything so easy. A special mention to Lisa who was so wonderful throughout our stay. We will definitely be back when it re-opens in October!

Thoroughly enjoyed my two nights stay at this hotel, my first time here and would certainly return if required. The staff are very friendly and helpful, breakfast and dinner were both fantastic and the bedroom was very comfortable and had a great nights sleep.
