My wife and I spent a lovely 3 nights in Knutholmen. The service - from Jan in particular - was exceptional. He took care of every detail of our stay and our excursions, including picking us up from the ferry and seeing us off in the morning and back in the evening. It is just a lovely quiet and secluded place to unwind and enjoy the stunning scenery. We enjoyed the complementary kayaks; we hiked around the area, and enjoyed the floating sauna and jumping in the fjord waters. Thank you Jan for everything. The only comment I would note is that our ocean facing room was small and had almost no place to unpack or even place our toiletries in the bathroom.

Our stay at Knutholmen was delightful The family who founded and still owns the hotel could not be lovelier and more accommodating. They upgraded us to a lovely apartment on the dock. Our side trip with Roy, a local crabber and fisherman, was our favorite of our two-week trip around Norway. We also enjoyed the Finnish sauna. Breakfast and dinner were very good! Highly recommend Knutholmen!!

Knutholmen is one of the most wonderful places we have ever stayed. We never would have found it on our own -- UpNorway, our trip planner, booked us here as an alternative to heavily touristed Lofoten. We arrived by ferry from Bergen (4 hours) and Svein, the owner, picked us up and brought us to the hotel (10 min) where we had a lovely late dinner. We stayed in one of the former fishing huts right on the water that is newly remodeled to a gorgeous, spacious, very modern apartment with every amenity. A Spar grocery store was a few steps from our front door. This family owned collection of accomodations around the village and centered on the fishing port exudes family-style warmth and relaxation. The staff is dedicated to making guests feel at home and comfortable. They were quite flexible on breakfast and dinner times, provide guest self serve laundry machines and were always available to make recommendations for outings. And be sure to take a few minutes to talk with Svein - he is quite the story-teller! The village is pretty and quiet and we enjoyed exploring the streets as well as the hiking trails in the hills about the town. We enjoyed several planned activities organized by Knutholmen, including a guided hike up a mountain to a lookout, a tour of the surrounding (very scenic) area, a sauna on the sea... and a peak into the commercial fish processing facility. At the end of our stay we felt that we had experienced something very special staying here at Knutholmen.

An amazing couple of nights at the Knutholmen. Everything was fantastic; the staff, the room, the retaurant and food, the ambience! And we were lucky enough to have spent some time with Svein Fosse (family patriarch!) who provided a history of the village and the Knutholmen with his family's history in Kalvag. We were sad to leave but the memories that will stay with us are priceless !!

We just spent three days at Knutholmen and I think it speaks volumes of it to share that despite 2 1/2 days of a gale storm (nonstop sideways rain and fierce winds) that required us to modify literally all of our planned activities, we did not have an ounce of disappointment because the Fosse family members who run Knutholmen went out of their way to create a magical experience for us, nonetheless. We stayed in Sjøholt (the yellow fisherman house) and were stunned at the absolutely beautiful and stylish decor as well as the perfect amenities. The entire harbor area is special - straight out of a picture book - and the fresh catch each day is a treat! Martine was so thoughtful in coming up with creative alternatives for us to still enjoy the area, one of which include us being able to spend nearly an entire day with Svein (her father, the founder) who taught us everything about not only the history of Kalvåg but also of Bremanger and the surrounding communities. I am certain we saw parts of the area that very few are lucky to experience. Svein was a delight to learn from but also was so gracious and patient with our many questions. The Fosse family and Knutholmen are truly a national treasure for Norway that I hope others take the time to get to know and appreciate!

Our favorite stay and experience in Norway by far! Kalvag is a charming small town on the water, surround by stunning mountains, and Knutholmen is wonderful! We had 3 rooms for our family and they were all spectacular. Modern bathrooms, luxurious linens and bedding, and very clean!! The food was absolutely delicious! You must order the shellfish dinner. Our host, Svein, and his family went out of the way to make sure we had everything we needed, and helped plan amazing excursions. We would absolutely recommend.

Visiting this beautiful hotel/resort was organized for us by Up Norway, a trip planner I’d highly recommend. Our family six was traveling to Norway for three weeks and our visit here to Knutholmen was part of that trip. Our accommodations were three nights in a four bedroom apartment. This included breakfast every morning and a wonderful four course dinner on our arrival day. Our four bedroom apartment looked brand new. It was spotless with a great view from the balcony of the harbor. And the refrigerator had some of the local beer and other treats. We were picked up from the ferry by one of the owners, Jan Frederick. He drove us right to our four bedroom apartment where we changed and headed to the restaurant for a delicious dinner. We would see Jan Frederick again the next day when he guided three of us up a steep, rocky trail to the highest Seacliff in Europe, Hornelen. When we returned from our hike we met up with the rest of our party and had another delicious dinner in the restaurant. All six of us enjoyed a massive seafood platter. The bar there is a lot of fun and we all enjoyed some aquavit. The next day might have been the highlight of our entire three weeks. A private trip for the six of us on a working fishing boat! Roy took us on his fishing boat through local waters. He had previously set up crab traps and we happily hoisted them up and kept some large crabs. We also jigged for mackerel and caught several. Roy then cooked them all up and we enjoyed them for lunch. Roy grew up on a remote island nearby and took us there. We explored the island and his childhood home. He showed us the inside of his home and we asked about pictures on the wall. One was a newspaper article of a rescue at sea that had his father saving another boat and crew. His dad rowed out on a dark, stormy night to assist the lost crew. It was a wonderful experience to see what rural island life was like in Norway 40 or 50 years ago. Roy was kind and generous with his time and our whole family thought that this was our most authentic experience in Norway. On the same day, toward the end of the afternoon, our whole family spent several hours sea kayaking in the local waters with Peder. It was a gorgeous, calm day and the clarity of the water was stunning. Viewing the village of Kalvag, the rolling fields, church and fish houses from the water made for excellent photos, especially in the afternoon light. When we returned we quickly got into our swimsuits and enjoyed an hour in the sauna that we had previously reserved. Then, another excellent dinner at the restaurant. I am not a foodie but I live in Seattle and know seafood and I would have to say that the fish and shellfish I enjoyed were amazing. Before we knew it it was time to leave as we had an early flight out of Floro. What would have been a very long van ride to the airport was made quick and fun by a speed boat ride provided by Knutholmen. We felt like we were in a James Bond movie. In the apartment when
