Visited here several times for a drink but stopped for a bite to eat with my partner and the food was excellent and service was first class. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I stopped by later and had a couple of drinks. I would highly recommend the Boat and anchor

Lovely food, and a lovely location. I wish I could say the same for the older lady who runs the pub. I feel terribly for the staff working under her thumb.. the way I heard her speaking to the young male, was atrocious. Never in my 46 years have I heard such a disgusting way of speaking to a colleague- if any of my staff or managers spoke to their colleague that way, they’d be very close to losing their job. I won’t be revisiting. Hopefully she can read this and realise how she sounds to her customers and her staff, because if that is her usual everyday attitude, I’m appalled. I hope her staff come forward because that should be classed as bullying in my personal opinion, and as a manager myself I would never allow it.

My partner and I spent the night yesterday…Found The Boat and Anchor easily as signposted from Bridgwater town centre…Checked in by a lovely lady who showed us to our room. The room was clean and tidy and looked to have been recently modernised. Went to have a shower but no hot water, informed staff member and the plumber was out and the job done within 2 hours and we were kept in the link about what was happening and the power shower was lovely…Had bar snacks for evening meal, all homemade and boiling hot…Chilled out in the room, heard a bit of traffic from the M5 and the alarm on the train track crossing when a train came but we soon got used to it and it blurred into the back ground…Bed was really comfy and had a great nights sleep…Breakfast included, sat in the conservatory and the food came out piping hot, was also able to have cereal, yoghurts, endless tea, coffee and orange/apple juice…Again staff are really friendly even at 830am on a Sunday, given a bottle of bubbly each as an apology for no hot water to begin with last night, really appreciated as these things happen and we were amazed that it was fixed quickly on a Saturday night… Went for a walk along the nearby canal and fisheries, beautiful scenery and then hung around in the beer garden until the pub/restaurant opened at 12 - Despite not being open and us having to vacate the room at 11 the landlord made me a lovely cup of tea…Had a roast each and oh my god it was amazing, excellent value for money and we couldn’t eat it all…Overall The Boat and Anchor is a friendly, well run place where you are made to feel very welcome and nothing is too much for the staff - We will be returning again and for £90 a night with breakfast it may be sooner than we expect…Thank you to you all for making our stay a great one, from the adults who came to get away from a 19 year old and their boyfriend 😂

Don’t be put off by the run down state of the outside of the pub we were met by a cheery landlord who made us welcome I met my parents there as it was a halfway point for both of us. The food was good value and well presented a far nicer experience than the service station up t here road.

Popped in for a bite to eat, and was spoiled for choice with the menu. The ploughman’s was beautiful. I personally had the Brie, bacon and cranberry panini. It was delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Can definitely see us returning

Very disappointing visit. We stayed for one night in November. The pub was shut with a Covid outbreak and we were not informed until we were already in the area. The pub was totally closed so we were unable to get dinner, breakfast or a drink. Had we been informed beforehand, ie the day before, we would have not stayed, but it was too late at that point to not take the room (which we were told had been cleaned by someone in the family without Covid!) . It was Carnival night so we would not have been able to get a room elsewhere. The room had leftover sauces in the top drawer from the previous guests and cobwebs hanging on the corner, so I am not sure that it was Covid cleaned for certain. I have asked the pub for half a refund for a stay that was not up to standard, or as advertised, but they do not even reply to my messages.

I can’t express enough how awful this place is. On arrival it seemed we had gone back in time, tired and uninviting. We arrived at 11:30am on a Sunday, this was a meeting point for a charity bike ride - there were 6 riders and around 15 of us as part of the support group. Initally 3 of us arrived at 11:30 and the pub was closed a woman came out to say they didn’t open while 12 (it was clear then how unfriendly she was). We hung around till 12 as we wanted food and drink, at 11:45 a man came out and asked us to move our cars/vans, we were paying customers or would have been if it was open. When it finally opened I have never known such rude horrible staff. I started to wonder if this pub was a smoke screen for something else as they clearly didn’t want customers, we were a hinderance but there were only 2 other people in here so I cannot understand why they wouldn’t have been glad of the business. Drinks were served with no ice, the glasses were dirty, the whole place was vile. I saw this was a hotel but I’d rather sleep in the car park to be quite honest! Do not come here!

Spent two days fishing with a couple of friends and stayed for one night. The family who run the venue were very flexible and kept the kitchen open late so that we could fish into the evening and served us a late breakfast after our morning session. Rooms clean and quiet. Highly recommended.

Yesterday I researched pubs in the local area of Bridgwater which was independent and not a big chain to have a nice home cooked pub classic meal. I found this wonderful pub located next to junction 24 and very well situated next to the canal. The family run pub was so friendly and spotlessly clean the beer garden was very large and the food was mouth watering and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend anyone to come to this pub for its great food and very welcoming family. What a steal at £14.95 for that delicious ploughman’s Home made Taunton potato chips Double stack 6oz beef burger with cheese I cannot wait to come back the next time I’m in town
