Broughton Craggs Hotel

Havn't actually stayed at the hotel, but the Sunday lunchtime carvery is very good. Choice of meats and serve yourself vegetables and gravy etc. Definitely not posh by any means, and the decor is quite tired looking, but hot and tasty Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price.

This is our 4th visit to Broughton Craggs Hotel. It has so much to offer situated in a cluster of lakes within a short travelling time. Some of the lakes close by are Bassenthwaite, Derwent, Buttermere, Wast water, Ennerdale to name a few all with great walks and views. The hotel is set in lovely grounds. Great to see the Peacocks and wildlife as you enter the long driveway. The rooms are comfortable. The hearty Breakfast served by Dan and Dave is a real feast and certainly sets you up for the day. We can highly recommend the evening meals home cooked by Lisa and Caitlin. The roasts are excellent and the majority of the menu is home cooked which is a rarity these days. Desserts are a real treat too. We retired each evening for a night cap to sit near the open fire which was welcome on these dark evenings and was really homely after a day walking. Visited previously in 2021. It’s a stunning building, fantastic period fixtures and fittings, great views and location, 2 miles from Cockermouth. Family owned, all lovely and very helpful. Breakfast will last you the rest of the day. Very good value.

Just had a lovely weekend at this Hotel, staff very polite and friendly, our room was morn than adequate for us with a good shower, breakfast was lovely and hot, so was the coffee. Plenty of room to park motorcycle's .my wife and I would not hesitate to go there again. Thanks for a lovely stay . Would have been better if sun was out

Excellent accommodation and food in a really friendly, family hotel that has a feeling of home about it. Lovely room with an extremely comfortable bed. A real bonus that we were able to take the dog with us. We will definitely be staying here again.

The Broughton Craggs Hotel has a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. It's set in attractive grounds, surrounded by lovely countryside with spectacular views across to the fells. There is ample parking. Our en-suite room was very clean, well-appointed and stylishly furnished. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts and evening meals were excellent, offering wide choices. It was a treat knowing we could go back to an enjoyable meal without having to turn out again and have a quiet drink in the comfy lounge bar afterwards. The family all work very hard making everything run smoothly without being intrusive yet are always ready to stop and help with any queries. The hotel is well-situated as a base for exploring the quieter northern lakes. We also visited Cockermouth and the coast at St. Bees. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and left well-rested and already planning our next.
