The hotel is either in decline or it was dormant. The restaurant was closed during our stay at the end of july with no signs of opening. There are many furnished spaces around the patio and the corridors, none of them are very inviting, but more a collection of quirky antiques. The patio is the domain of bees and the only waterfeature in the hotel, a small fountain in the patio contained greenish water and a dead gecko. The fridge in the room was makkng a lot of noise as did the airconditioning that was not able to keep up with the 30 degrees outside temperature. The electrical fittings in the room were a bit dodgy (the fridge hardwired in a wall switch, the tv in an uncapped socket) . The hotel could really make a splash with a cold water pool, to rest your weary limbs after a hike or cycle tour theough the gorgeous mountains. HOWEVER: The hotel is clean offers great beds, spaceous rooms , has an excellent breakfast and the staff is friendly. It’s location is very convenient, close to the mountains and close enough to the bustling tourist beaches for a dip

Lovely hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff on reception. We had a superior room with terrace. Dinner was a cold picnic ( we knew beforehand) , very well done.room very clean . Not much going on in this area, so depending on what you want might not be the best. Very quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast buffet good too, excellent coffee machine . The hot eggs, sausages leave a lot to be desired but that happens in most places. Lots of lovely fruits, cereals , breads , cold meats etc

We normally expect a certain standard when travelling with HF Holidays. This hotel fell way below our expectations. In particular the evening meal was always disappointing. We had to choose the day before from poor descriptions but was basically chicken, fish and vegetarian. Occasionally they were all unappetising and in summary, very poor value for money. Luckily the walking was very good and the ability to buy own packed lunches elsewhere was adequate. Breakfast was tolerable - just.

Oh dear. Our terrible welcome (not) after a long journey spoiled everything. It was all a bit Fawlty Towers. The young man wasn’t friendly at all. We wanted dinner but were told that we would have to wait for service because there was a table of 8 people. Yes but in an enormous room there was only 4 other people. And yes we did have to wait. It was all rather amateur. The young man from the guest then became the waiter. We had to fetch our own menu. And when we ordered wine it took 20 minutes to come and the bottle had already been opened before it came to the table. It was horrible and expensive and they charged for it. The replacement bottle took another 10 minutes to come. The food when it came was good although the dessert was not great. The restaurant was a bit bleak. We felt that the nice lamps needed to be lower with less bright bulbs. Back in the room the TV didn’t work. The bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom fine. The next day we realised that it was in fact a nice place. The woman on the desk was really helpful. The lounge was beautiful with lots of fun games and we had a lovely coffee. It’s a real shame that our initial experience was so bad.

This is a good more-or-less 4* hotel. Good base for hiking in the nearby countryside. Very comfortable bed and good shower. Elegant building and surrounding hotel landscape. Perfectly good, simple breakfast. Good internet.

Beautiful historic surroundings. Staff friendly and always there to make your stay comfortable. The rooms modern, spacious. Impecable cleanliness. Large parking. Included buffet breakfast with a lot of variety. Bus stop and taxi stand 200 mts away if you want to visit Masca as parking up there is a nightmare and the road is sinuous. I recommend this hotel for lovers of outdoor and quiet stay. Many hiking routes from the hotel.

The hotel is very charming, the location is perfect when you’re going hiking in the hills (especially to visit Masca). The staff was very friendly and gave us some tips on where to go and local knowledge (go in spring to see the almond blossom). They have a good selection of wines from the local area which is good Some problems - the restaurant, diner was disappointing and expensive for the quality. I'm sure I could hear the reassuring ping of the microwave. However we arrived late and did not eat on the journey so it was our only choice. It was hot and the wine was good. - breakfast - weirdly one day a hot choice was chicken nuggets! scrambled eggs were not seasoned and dry. The rest was fresh - the Spanish omelette is good and selection as to be expected. - NO HOT WATER ONE NIGHT! - we had a cold shower on our first night, which was fine because it was hot and we had been out hiking all day but the next day we were told it was fixed and only happens in some rooms. No apology or 'so sorry you experienced this', luckily it was fixed otherwise we would have moved hotels and asked for a refund to go somewhere else. - restaurants in town close early as they have been open early in the day so eat elsewhere
