From the moment I arrived, I could tell this wasn’t your standard Gold Coast hotel experience. I’ll admit, I had a small internal eye roll when no one came to open the door to my brother’s hire car (a humble Toyota Corolla). I turned around and suddenly someone appeared to take my luggage, which was a lovely surprise, and guided me toward the reception for check-in. I arrived around 5:45 p.m., a little later than planned after a delayed flight, and I was only staying for about 24 hours, so I wanted to settle in quickly. I was greeted by a lady named Georgia who was on the front desk, and she was an absolute standout. She was charming, engaging, and genuinely happy to be there. She’s one of those rare people who can read a guest in ten seconds flat. She knew exactly when to chat and when to let me get on with it. Nothing about her approach felt rehearsed or forced; it was warm, natural, and real. You could tell she enjoys what she does and takes pride in doing it well. She greeted me like someone who genuinely wanted me to have a good stay, not like someone ticking boxes on a shift sheet. That kind of interaction completely changes the tone of an arrival, especially when you’ve had a delayed flight, you’re tired, and the last thing you want is fake enthusiasm. In a world where front desk staff often look like they’d rather be anywhere else, she was a breath of fresh air. Professional, polished, and genuinely kind. A total gem and an absolute credit to the Mondrian team. Nick, who I believe is the manager, stepped in during check in and asked if it was my first time staying at the Mondrian. Straight away, he had an engaging presence that makes you feel like you’re in good hands. He offered to take my bag upstairs and normally I’d say no because “I’ll take your bag to your room” usually translates to “you’ll see it an hour later.” What he actually meant was I’ll personally escort you to your room and give you a tour. And that, to me, is real customer service. He didn’t just walk me through the basics; he felt like someone who owned the building or at least cared for it like it was his. That kind of pride and ownership in a staff member is rare. It’s hard to find someone who isn’t just doing their job but actually believes in what they’re representing. That kind of instinct can’t be taught. You could tell he cared about every corner of the place and every person in it. It’s rare to find that level of pride and attention in someone who clearly loves what they do. That kind of energy changes the whole experience. He took me up to my room, a quarter suite, and even though it’s not one of the top tier options, it felt exceptional. I grew up on the Gold Coast, have lived in Sydney, and have stayed in some of the world’s best hotels (Aman Venice is my favourite), but this room genuinely impressed me. It felt like Raes and The Calile had a baby who went to Harvard and design school, sophisticated, smart, and shining. The in room tech is actually useful.

It's a while since I have written a review- but our stay at Mandrian last weekend has inspired me! My opinion- don't stay here - at $500-$1000 per night look elsewhere. My wife and I are Platinum Level Accor members- so without sounding pompish- we have stayed in a few motels throughout Australia and all around the world. This Motel is NOT 5 Star - lucky to get 1 - 2. For looks I can understand the 4 - 5, but it's not all about looks (for some of us) - it is also about functionality and service. If a hotel claims this level of Stars - it should provide the level of service - Mondrian does not. It failed in so many ways I will probably not be able to list all the issues and impressions - but I will have a go. I agree with another reviewer-whoever designed this hotel should have been sacked. From arrival - you have reverse to the underground car park or go out and around to enter. The stupid front desk - space for two staff and no flat area for guests to use, to the impractical pool - persons with a physical disability would certainly struggle to get in, very dark hallways, to the spiky (real live) cactus in the room - right where you walk, to the fake rock art work which you have to dodge and hopefully not attach yourself to the cactus, while dodging the corner of the bed -skin off shins! The sofa has the lift up TV in it -nice TV but horrible sofa. My wife really struggled to open the balcony door it was so heavy. No explanation of the room- considering all the controls for blinds and lights that would have been helpful. First night no milk in the minibar The restaurants were incredibly noisy - we walked out first night. Service was hit and miss - quick to serve and then we were forgotten about. VERY salty food, my meat was raw (wasn't asked how I would like it cooked) which went back. Some of the staff were very helpful and friendly - but I think it was evident there were some (understatement) issues in the background. No doubt my review will come as no surprise to those in management that read these reviews. I don't recommend this motel and will not be returning.

A Birthday luncheon with 5 friends at Haven, one of the restaurants in the Mondrian Burleigh Heads resort was actually going really well until our main dishes showed up. The service was excellent and the cocktails were on point however, when Mains arrived, I could have sworn they looked like the chef had disappeared and left it to his apprentice to do the cooking. We ordered Prawn Bisque Risotto and got some kind of dehydrated rice resembling overcooked paella NOT risotto and the prawns were just strewn on top also dehydrated and not even resembling a proper risotto. I say you need to get your act together if you want to be charging exorbitant prices and adding 15% weekend surcharge!! never again. I don't give second chances I just spread the word. All 3 out of 5 that ordered the risotto sent it back, didn't finish it or just were very disappointed.

Even a 2 star feels generous when you consider the cost of a room at the new Mondrian in Burleigh Heads. I’ll give it 1 for the location which is probably its best selling point. I’m not sure who designed this hotel but they should be fired on the spot. The pool should obviously be the epicentre of the hotel but its location on the beach side means it is in shade from lunchtime onwards and cops the prevailing summer nor’easter wind rending it totally useless for the time of day when most guests would actually want to use it in the afternoon. Once we found our room down pitch black corridor you again realise it’s all style over substance. Too much stone and a “designer” impractical sofa. We were a family of four in a Studio Sunset which contained two double beds. A double bed might be fine for the kids but no way for adults so I am not sure how this room can realistically be sold for 2 adults and 2 children. $885 a night is a high price for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. It’s a twin room not a family room. The reception should be a welcoming feature of any hotel but it’s like the designer forgot to put one in so there is now a small stand up desk crammed in the corner as you walk in the door. Staff were friendly enough and seemed apologetic and expectant of the criticism when we raised the issue of the pool. The only nice space in the whole hotel is the ground floor Lito restaurant for breakfast but even that experience was sullied due to a surly front of house manager. Burleigh Heads was crying out for a great hotel. Mondrian had a chance but have sadly totally stuffed it up.

To begin, this newly opened and aesthetically pleasing establishment has recently opened in June 2025. It is an ideal hotel for this vibrant city. I would like to express my gratitude to General Manager Nick, who exceeded my expectations during my stay. My business partner and I were thoroughly impressed by the check-in process, the downstairs restaurant, and, of course, the exquisite suites. The panoramic views from the balcony overlooking the ocean and waterfront were particularly breathtaking. I will undoubtedly return to the Mondrian on my future visits to the Gold Coast. I highly recommend that you consider staying there as well.
