Guest UserAlthough the hotel has been open for a while, the rooms are well-maintained and don't look old or dated. It's only about a 5-minute walk to the Reef Fleet Terminal, which is really convenient for taking a cruise to the Great Barrier Reef – you can even sleep in a bit longer in the morning!
Since breakfast wasn't included with the room, we added it for two days when we checked in. It was around $40-something per person. I have to say, the breakfast was pretty mediocre, both in terms of variety and taste. Even the tables and chairs weren't as well-kept as the rooms; the chair I sat on was wobbly.
Overall, the hotel is pretty good. The location is convenient, and the rooms are comfortable. There's a decent Italian restaurant on the way to the terminal too.

Guest UserThe hotel's location is excellent, with a wide variety of dining options right downstairs. Our family of three booked a suite, and they added a single bed in the living room, which was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast selection was also very rich and diverse, offering great value for money! A quick tip: there aren't as many hotels in Cairns as one might expect, and even during the off-season, this hotel's rooms can be scarce. It's best to book your entire stay at once, as trying to extend your reservation day-by-day might mean you won't find availability.

Guest UserThe hotel is a 15-20 minute walk from the pier. They don't provide bottled water, and there's no facility to get drinkable water, so you'll need to buy your own from the supermarket. Drying clothes on the balcony is prohibited, so bring extra swimsuits or a portable drying device. The shower easily wets the bathroom floor.

Enjoyed my stay for 5 days. Buffet was good, staffs are friendly and helpful. Some of the pepper mills bit rusty in buffet area.
Room service people works every day ie. cleaning, changing towels and bed making.
Bathroom flushing stopped working, fixed in no time.
Taps are bit older version not easy to operate.
Instructions to use the Lift should be displayed in the lift using Room keys, some elderly people were struggling inside the lift as i entering into the lift.
No exhaust in bathroom, so every time fog on the mirror.
If we have Shuttle service to the Airport could have been much better considering it’s only 5 to 7 minutes drive. There is a Hotel van standing in front of the hotel but it serves only to the night market.
Overall I will come back.

Shirley PeimingThe Executive Seaview Room was excellent value for money. The room had ceilings over 3 meters high, which made it feel incredibly spacious. The breakfast and dinner, along with all-day tea, snacks, and evening drinks, were all of a very high standard. We stayed for 3 nights, and there were no repeated dishes. The Executive Lounge is on an exclusive floor, so there were no other guests to disturb us, making it quiet and the restaurant uncrowded. The hotel also thoughtfully provided complimentary champagne and chocolates packaged from Cairns. Furthermore, the hotel's location is superb, within walking distance to the pier, city center, and night market, which is extremely convenient.

Salted BroadbeansThe unit is adequate for my family of six for a 3-night stay. Basic necessities are generally met, and the overall stay was acceptable. However, there were several maintenance and usability issues that affected comfort. Some air-conditioning remotes were faulty or missing batteries, requiring us to swap between rooms to find working ones. The telephone/RJ45 connection head was also broken and left dangling, with wiring not properly connected, which gave a poor impression of upkeep. In terms of sleeping comfort, the beds are quite soft and the pillows offer very little support. The positioning of the electrical wall outlets behind the bed also made it inconvenient, as we had to shift the bed forward to access the sockets. For kitchen use, it would be helpful to provide basic dishwashing supplies such as a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and a sponge, especially when only a few items are used in the dishwasher. On a positive note, the bathroom facilities are in good condition. Water pressure is strong and hot water is consistently available, which made showers comfortable. Overall, the stay was acceptable, but there is clear room for improvement in maintenance and basic guest amenities.

Okay here’s my review. The Espy has so much going for it in terms of being central to the entertainment precinct of Cairns Esplanade.
Check in was easy and friendly and the two bunk dorm had its own dedicated ensuite bathroom which was very clean and quite large.
The bedroom was clean and the bunks were enclosed wood and steel construction with zero squeaking. Clean towel and linen provided.
So that’s all the very good stuff.
The not as good things I observed were:
- the lounge/common areas were dimly lit, very tired (bordering on festy) furniture and not somewhere I’d socialise due to limited seating, very few power/USB outlets or clean comfortable seating.
- The pool…. Or should I call it the tropical punch bowl of various biological matter and other detritus… if you’re keen of growing something fungal on your body, go in…. I decided not to.
-Kitchen and meal prep area all seemed clean and safe to get your mung bean and tofu ready for consumption.
- The personal under bunk locker was missing its latch and with two roommates I had to say a little prayer that my gear would be safe inside my enclosed bunk.
Overall this was my maiden voyage as a backpacker and at 57 years of age, I’ve stayed in a lot of Hotels and Motels costing far more for way less cleanliness. I rate this place highly for all the good reasons above.
The not so good stuff is easily fixed by management but for $65 per night in peak season, I don’t think you can get any better value in Central Cairns right near the action. Pubs, cafes, night market and the City Lagoon.
Thanks Espy crew, you made this old dog’s stay a pleasant one and will be back if and when the opportunity presents itself.

Guest UserTraveling solo, I found this place quiet and clean. The only minor drawback was the slightly dated facilities, but everything else was perfect. The price was also reasonable. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm on a road trip in New Zealand.

강쥐사탕I booked a 3-bedroom apartment, but didn't have high expectations since it was a motel. However, it was cleaner than I thought and not bad at all. It's a bit far from the city center, so I had to use Uber frequently. Still, the accommodation fee was cheap enough that even with the Uber costs, it was still a good deal. It takes about 10 minutes by Uber to get to the city center, and you can just do your grocery shopping at a supermarket there and take an Uber back.
